CNN: User Generated Journalism In Second Life

Written by Igor Beuker on October 31st, 2007 | 1 comment

Reuters embedded a reporter in Second Life. But starting the week of November 5, CNN is venturing into Second Life, giving Second Life citizens kits that will allow them to transmit photos and information back to CNN.

This incoming information will inform newsfeeds distributed from kiosks around Second Life. The user-generated journalism is something that CNN is hoping will appeal to the users of Second Life, and something that will foster the spread of information.

Other citizen journalism initiative I like a lot is the user generated newspaper from Korea OhmyNews.

My question to our community: do you feel Second Life is dead or alive? Will you find your second wife in Second Life? More about CNN in Second Life at Mediaweek’s Digital Download.

Tuborg Beer Viral: Pretty When Drunk?

Written by Igor Beuker on October 30th, 2007 | no comments

We have seen many Beer brands launch viral internet commercials. This old skool Tuborg Beer commercial might get recognized by many male internet users?

Since the Online Publishers Association Study learned us that many male internet users are watching online videos and viral commercials daily or weekly, I expect more beer brands will target Men (18- 34 years) with viral internet commercials coming years. Do you feel the same?

ZaZoo Condoms: Shocking Viral Commercial?

Written by Igor Beuker on October 30th, 2007 | no comments

Condom brands have great opportunties to go viral. What about this hilaric Trojan Games concept? Also this ZaZoo Condoms viral almost made me pee my panty.

Will you think twice about ‘having kids’ if you have seen this viral commercial? Or would you ‘glue’ to Trojan or ZaZoo condoms for just another while?

ING Direct: I Need To Go Interactive Viral

Written by Igor Beuker on October 30th, 2007 | 4 comments

ING Direct has launched an interactive viral commercial with guts in Belgium. The underlying thought? On the internet everything is for free, including going to the toilet and internet banking with ING.

In the press release one can read: “You need to go while surfing? Visit “I Need To Go”, the first toilets on the internet. Male or female, small or big dump: “I Need To Go” is free for all. And when exiting Madame Pipi has a small surprise for you …”

ING I need to go

What ING Direct could have done better, is to run their micro-website ‘I need to go’ on the domain of ING Direct. Like: ingdirect.com/ineedtogo. Now ING Direct is missing many links to it’s main domain and that might cost them a higher Pagerank in Google. Yes Sir, SEM and SMO are integrated mostly.

But, I applaud ING Direct for their guts in this viral. Let’s just not forget that ING Direct is the world’s leading direct savings bank, is active in nine countries and has over 18 million customers worldwide.

It’s a member of ING, one of the largest financial services companies in the world. ING has over 112,000 employees operating in 50 countries with banking and insurance assets exceeding $600 billion. So ING Direct is not afraid to damage it’s brand. And I find that courageous. Don’t you?

Pacific Bell: DSL Web Hog Viral Commercials

Written by Igor Beuker on October 30th, 2007 | no comments

That viral commercials can be weapons of mass affection is proved by Pacific Bell with their series of viral internet commercials. The commercials are about very frustrated neighbours, that freak out while sharing the same cable line, when going online. What happens next at Laurel Lane is a must see…

Pacific Bell also launched ‘Log Off-Why Cable Sucks’. Do you remember that feeling?

Written by Igor Beuker on October 29th, 2007 | no comments

Have you seen this viral commercial of Soesman Language? Well, let’s just say that Language Institutes have great viral opportunties. Look at this hilaric Berlitz viral ’starring’ the German Coast Guard. Luckily Germany’s coast is not that long ;-)

Unilever’s Dove Onslaught Meets Backlash?

Written by Igor Beuker on October 29th, 2007 | no comments

About 4 weeks ago I wrote about Dove Onslaught, the latest viral Dove commercial launched by Unilever.

Filmmaker Rye Clifton has created a video called: ‘Talk to your daughters before Unilever does’. Rye is pointing out that one company believes it can get away with creating Onslaught for Dove with one hand while churning out spot after spot of bikini-clad, writhing women for Axe with the other.

How do you feel about Axe and Dove being under one roof? Is Dove’s message still authentic knowing about the sexy Axe babes? (Source: Beyond Madison Avenue)

Soesman: F*ck You In The Ass Viral Commercial?

Written by Igor Beuker on October 28th, 2007 | 3 comments

How a small local company can get global attention? Look at this old skool viral commercial, created by Y&R for Soesman Language Training- a small local Dutch company. It’s a very low cost commercial production wise. But it’s clever, witty and hilarious.

Viral Friday: Neon Bible

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on October 26th, 2007 | 1 comment

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 10 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This week’s Viral Friday #1 position goes to Arcade Fire’s ‘Neon Bible’. The Canadian band made an interactive video clip for their latest single ‘Neon Bible’. In the video clip we see the head and hands of singer Win Butler moving separately from each other. Click around the video clip, the visitor has control of Win’s movements! The runner up spot is for Snowball the Cockatoo. Cockatoo Snowball is conquering the world with his dance moves! The bird, who lives in the Birds Lover Only Rescue in Schererville, Indiana goes crazy when he hears the Backstreet Boys performing their song Everybody. The reactions to the 2 Girls 1 Cup video complete this week’s top 3. We won’t post the original, disgusting, clip, but we will post the reactions of people watching that clip. Filming someone who watches the video for the first time and uploading it to YouTube is a huge hit right now!

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 10? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!
