Viral Friday: Neon Bible

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 10 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This week’s Viral Friday #1 position goes to Arcade Fire’s ‘Neon Bible’. The Canadian band made an interactive video clip for their latest single ‘Neon Bible’. In the video clip we see the head and hands of singer Win Butler moving separately from each other. Click around the video clip, the visitor has control of Win’s movements! The runner up spot is for Snowball the Cockatoo. Cockatoo Snowball is conquering the world with his dance moves! The bird, who lives in the Birds Lover Only Rescue in Schererville, Indiana goes crazy when he hears the Backstreet Boys performing their song Everybody. The reactions to the 2 Girls 1 Cup video complete this week’s top 3. We won’t post the original, disgusting, clip, but we will post the reactions of people watching that clip. Filming someone who watches the video for the first time and uploading it to YouTube is a huge hit right now!

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 10? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

1. Neon Bible

Neon Bible

Canadian indie rockband Arcade Fire had it’s big break through back in 2004 with debut album Funeral. Music critics were full of the brilliant debut and so were fellow musicians Coldplay, who frequently praised the band. Early October Arcade Fire posted a cryptic message on their website. The message could be read on BeonlineB.com, which seems to be an anagram for ‘Neon Bible’, the title of the second album and new single.

In the interactive video clip for ‘Neon Bible’ we can see the head and hands of front man Win Butler moving separately from each other. Just click around the site. You, the visitor, control his movements and you can make him do some tricks! (Source: Adfoblog, Planet.nl, Nu.nl)

2. Snowball the Cockatoo

Snowball, the Cockatoo, conquers the world with it’s dance moves! The bird, owned by Irena and Chuck Schulz, lives in the Birds Lover Only Rescue in Schererville, Indiana and goes mental when it hears the 11-years old song ‘Everybody’ by American boy band Backstreet Boys. As soon as the music starts Snowball lifts it’s feet one after the other and moves it’s body and head to the beat. The clip is a huge YouTube success with almost 1 million views. TV shows like Inside Edition and The Morning Show with Mike en Juliet have showed Snowballs clips on American television. In short, Snowball is the perfect ambassador of Birds Lover Only Rescue. How much donations Snowball gathered is unknown. (Source: Dag)

3. 2 Girls 1 Cup

For several weeks the internet is shocked with a kinda strange/the most disgusting video you’ll ever see. Have no fear, we’re not going to link it. What is interesting is a new phenomenon; filming the reaction of people who watch the clip for the first time. YouTube gets flooded with these clips! Is this a door opening technique for viral marketers?

I think so. Obviously using more decent video’s, like Kaffee or maybe the slightly shocking weather man Piet Paulusma. Friends, colleagues and other bystanders will be curious to know what you’re looking at. You’ll probably recognize this scenario: You are watching a hilarious or shocking video on YouTube at work, and before you know it at least 10 colleagues gather behind you because they’re curious what made you laugh. The reaction to the 2 Girls video above has about 500.000 views on YouTube. And this is just one of over 500!

4. ING: I Need To Go

Emakina created this much talked about viral for ING Belgium. The underlying thought? On the internet everything is for free, including going to the toilet and internet banking with ING. In the press release one can read: “You need to go while surfing? Visit “I Need To Go“, the first toilets on the internet. Male or female, small or big dump: “I Need To Go” is free for all. And when exiting Madame Pipi has a small surprise for you…”

The Belgian agency earlier scored big with ‘Rent a Wife‘, a campaign which, after a ban, was aborted, but still won international awards at the MIXX Awards. (Source: Standaard, Buzzingbees)

6. Mercator Pension Fund

Belgian advertising agency Duval Guillaume made this hilarious clip. The message: “Ladies, be confident in the future. Contribute to your pension fund with Mercator.

7. The Slowest Audi Ever

Bartle Bogle Hegarty made this new commercial for Audi’s R8. Obviously the R8 isn’t Audi’s slowest car ever on the road, but it is when it’s getting build. In the video we see how the car gets build, in fast forward. The R8’s V8 4.2 FSI engine will thrust the car from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and will bring the car to a top speed of 187mph.
