Written by Igor Beuker on November 6th, 2007 | no comments

Andy Plesser at Beet.tv did a series of video interviews out of the Future of Business Media conference in NYC last week. See the below interview with Rob Norman, CEO, Global at GroupM.

I have had the pleasure to meet Rob in Marbella and NYC this year. He’s WPP’s Digital Czar, a very clever and witty visionair. In the interview Rob talks about online video advertising, different CPM rates of video advertising, about VideoEgg and WildTangent in which WPP holds a stake and about Facebook.

Wilkinson: Fight For Kisses Viral Game

Written by Igor Beuker on November 6th, 2007 | 1 comment

Wilkinson understands it. Check their viral concept Fight For Kisses. Dad is fighting to get kisses from Mom. But the Baby is fighting back. Great viral trailer, strong micro-website, okay R&B beat and fun game. I think this is brand activation worth mentioning. What are your thoughts?

Did you discover a similar viral from Gillette yet? What about the Philips Bodygroom campaign Shave Everywhere?

Blaupunkt: Pimp My Ride Viral Commercial

Written by Igor Beuker on November 5th, 2007 | no comments

Do you remember when Blaupunkt was one of the leading car audio brands? 19 years ago I got my drivers license and bought a very old VW Golf (1200 Euros) with a Blaupunkt car stereo in it. It’s like the Blaupunkt brand had vanished last ten years? You’ve noticed?

But with a new strategy and a new approach Blaupunkt seems on it’s way back. Blaupunkt is targeting screenagers and revitalizing it’s brand by sponsoring MTV’s Pimp My Ride. 2 Years ago Blaupunkt launched it’s viral commercial Pimp My Ride. It became a great success and Blaupunkt broadcasted this commercial at MTV TV Stations in several countries.

I think this is one of the smartest, cheapest and best viral commercials I have seen in years. Again proving that cheap but very compelling viral internet commercials can easily become weapons of mass affection and spice up dusty brands. I you have seen the commercial, show us your thoughts!

P&G Febreze: ‘What Stinks’ In Facebook Viral?

Written by Igor Beuker on November 5th, 2007 | no comments

Lately I notice that more and more brand managers are complaining: “It’s so difficult to reach screenagers 18-24 years“. When I ask them:”What % of your media-mix are you spending online”? Mostly their answer is:” well, this year about 4-5% of our total media spend”. Then I ask them:”That group spents over 40% of their total media time online, why don’t you just increase your online ad spend to 25%, tweak your media budget better to their media behavior”?

The most common answer then is:”Yes, but my media agency says….”. Then I ask the brand marketer:”Okay, but who controls your media agency“? Well it’s again Procter & Gamble that tries innovative new ways to reach secreenagers and gather them around P&G brands.

febreze2.jpg

Procter & Gamble is using a plethora of WOM techniques to try to attract college students to its Febreze brand. The company, which admits mainstream media hits aren’t as useful for the college demographic, is using Facebook, a branded website complete with contests and games, and a Febreze-branded comedy tour, to get the attention of dorm-dwellers around the country.

So it’s no surprise, then, that WhatStinks.com, an interactive website all about Febreze spray, is actually housed within Facebook, and that P&G plans media buys and banner ads on Facebook. Wasn’t it the same P&G that opened up Always Salons in the UK Habbo Hotel?!! Read more about this Febreze brand activation concept at Advertising Age or Lonely Marketer.

We all know that Isreali’s are very advanced in internet technology. Remember the launch of ICQ in 1996?

Now it seems that Israeli’s have opened world’s first web2.0 compliant supermarket? The supermarket has user created products, product are tagged, a cookie is given to customers and buyers get recommendations at the cash desk?

Viral Friday: Dude!

Written by Niels Bellaar on November 2nd, 2007 | 1 comment

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 10 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This week’s Viral Friday #1 position goes to Bud Light with their viral “Dude!“. Between 1999 and 2002 Anheuser-Busch used the very catchy “Whassup!?” in their commercials. This created a true hype on the internet and resulted in dozens of spoofs and remakes. Will Bud Light pull off this trick once again? The runner up spot is for iPod touch. Apple is going to use this home made commercial for the iPod touch which they found on YouTube. Apple’s advertising agency, TBWA/Chiat/Day, was impressed enough to invite the 18 year old student to LA. HEMA’s creative animation website completes this week’s top 3. They found a way to show the Dutch public what kind of new products are available in their online shop. The website quickly found it’s way to several popular Dutch blogs, like VKmag, Retecool, Dutchcowboys and IN10.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 10? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Cadbury Gorilla Advert

At the end of August Cadbury UK unveiled a £6.2m campaign for Dairy Milk featuring a gorilla playing the drum solo of Phil Collins’ track ‘In the Air Tonight’. The ad debuted during the ‘Big Brother 8 UK’ final on 31st August 2007. Bloggers have been going nuts for the 90 second clip, developed and directed by creative director Juan Cabral at Fallon London.

The spot was viewed almost 500,000 times on YouTube the week after its release. Over one hundred copies of the video have been uploaded to Youtube so far, with total views of over six million! Some excellent spoofs/remixes were created, e.g Eclipse of the Heart remix, 50 Cent remix and A skillz vs Cadbury’s Gorilla remix. Until now, no one had identified the man behind the monkey suit. Many bloggers believed it was even Collins himself! England’s Daily Mail published a story this weekend with more than you’d ever wanted to know about Cadbury’s drumming gorilla. The actor inside is …
