HDTV Jewish Style

Written by Daan Jansonius on December 4th, 2007 | 2 comments

Let me start by saying this: No, I haven’t got a clue what they are talking about either!

Right, now we’ve got that out of the way we can focus on the viral at hand. YES, a satellite television network in Israel, was looking for a creative way to inform the good people of Israel of their new service – HD TV.

Ad agency McCann Digital were hired and executed their job in a brilliant, if somewhat unexpected manner. Long, curly sideburns, black hat, Jewish traits by definition are matched with silly dancing and YMCA. Which are not so Jewish.

Anyway, the end result is hilarious. Even though I can’t understand a word of it.

Here Comes Another Bubble

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on December 4th, 2007 | 4 comments

The San Francisco-based group The Richter Scales created this hilarious Silicon Valley music video, sung to the tune of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire”. The web 2.0 bubble video really cracked up Robert Scoble: “I have Diet Coke coming out of my nose this was so funny” he wrote on his blog Scobelizer. Is there a new bubble coming?

Peer2Peer & Social Banks: Show Me The Money!

Written by Igor Beuker on December 4th, 2007 | 7 comments

At December 12, 2007 MIT Club Northern California is doing a Panel Discussion on Social Lending in Palo Alto San Francisco. I really would like to go but can’t. And if Richard Branson taps into peer2peer banking or social lending, banks should at least attend this event!

So, banks like Citibank and ING Direct book a flight and be there. You should understand this revolution and take a closer look. Also look at the power Zecco Share, the smart concept of social trading community Zecco, with Zecco Share. Power to the united consumers?!

Banks, please learn that louder shouting through annoying commercials won’t help. Leave that shouting for money to Cuba Gooding Jr. and Tom Cruise in the great movie Jerry Maguire ;-)

‘There Are No Accidents’ Viral Campaign

Written by Daan Jansonius on December 3rd, 2007 | 4 comments

The kids from Southpark once sang ‘Blame Canada’. The people over at WSIB, a Canadian based government agency which deals with work place safety, must have felt the same. Accidents don’t happen in the work place, they are caused due to mistakes made by others.

Their new viral campaign, called Prevent-It, is a series of short ads which show some work place accidents in the most brutal of manners. For our Dutch readers, they are reminiscent of the annual fire works campaign by Sire .

According to their ads accidents do not happen in the work place, they are caused by laziness, poor timing, bad planning and a whole host of other reasons. I don’t think they could have made that any clearer than they have done in these video’s.

Definitely not for the faint hearted!

Another Internet Myth Busted

Written by Daan Jansonius on December 2nd, 2007 | no comments

Thanks to the internet we now all know that we haven’t actually been on the moon yet, George W Bush is the greatest president to have ever lived and the Numa Numa guy is the most popular guy on earth. Oh, and Hitler loves playing on his Xbox 360.

Like the two middle aged ginger guys on the Discovery Channel, the internet is a great resource to refute (or start!) rumours and bust myths. Recently we came across a very touching story about a 20 year old German guy who was diagnosed with leukaemia – he was going to die within a year. Due to his disease he decided to live his last year on earth on the edge and took up train surfing as a hobby. He posted his exploits on the internet.

Shortly after he shot to fame on Youtube he died. Or did he?

Gamers Apologetic Video: Blame Halo 3

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on December 2nd, 2007 | no comments

JamesatWar from Fairbanks, Alaska likes to spoof things. Since he joined YouTube about 3 months ago he recorded some hilarious and quite successful videos, e.g. Star Trek Shatner Back and Nickelback Rockstar Spoof. His YouTube fanbase quickly grew to over 6,000 subscribers in just 90 days. His latest music video “Blame Halo 3″ is a humorous parody of Akon’s apologetic anthem “Sorry, Blame It On Me” about game addiction and lack of parental responsibility. Halo 3 brings a lot of guys a lot of enjoyment, but some don’t realize how it is affecting their loved ones or should I call them ‘videogame widows’?

Other songs about games, MMORPG and video game consoles: Smoke The Wii, Wiihab, Buy Mii a Wii, World of Warcraft Song, Xbox 360 Song and ofcourse the famous PS3 Song. (Source: Joystiq, Kontraband)

Dr Pepper: Cherry Chocolate Rain Viral ft. Tay

Written by Igor Beuker on December 1st, 2007 | 12 comments

This is hot and fresh from the press, thanks to a tip in our network. Dr Pepper added the new viral music video Cherry Chocolate Rain to YouTube November 28, 2007. The music video is starring Internet icon Tay and Mista Johnson. With this hilaric viral commercial Dr Pepper is celebrating it’s new Cherry Chocolate beverage.

The video was produced by True Entertainment, directed by Jeff Tomsic and the song was produced by ID Labs Productions. You can download MP3 here.

I think the Cherry Chocolate Rain music video reminds me of this song: Oran “Juice” Jones-The Rain. Remember that old skool song from your first R&B moves? It was released in 1986 by Def Jam.

Virgin Atlantic: Great Viral Airline Commercial

Written by Igor Beuker on December 1st, 2007 | no comments

Follow the path of a major British success story Virgin Atlantic, founded by powerhouse Sir Richard Branson. Virgin Atlanctic started with a leased jumbo and has become the UK’s second largest long haul airline.

Time and time again captain Richard Branson and his marketing team know how to create pr and buzz for the airline with e.g. Virgin Challenger, which I saw close at WIRED NextFest 2006 in New York.

Being rebellious is part of the Virgin Group DNA. Is that the reason why the company has launched so many great viral commercials? What about the great Virgin Atlantic viral commercial you just saw? Or check why Virgin Mobile is the best MVNO in the UK for many years and why Virgin is a veteran in victorious viral commercials.

Brand managers around the world; please take a closer look at Virgin’s viral strategy. Creating compelling virals asks you to go a step further than your dull brand guides, which are about the same at too many brands. If you want a high viral reach globally, against very low costs per contact, look at Virgin.
