SQPN: The Best In Catholic Podcasting

Written by Igor Beuker on January 3rd, 2008 |

It might sound strange to you, but the Catholic Church is blogging and podcasting in a phenomenal way! This concept by the Catholic Church should really win a Webby Award! And yes, like many brands the Catholic Church is losing loyal customers. Like many brands, the Catholic Church has trouble reaching it’s target group, since also the media behavior of modern catholic consumers is switching to online dramatically.

But, unlike many brands, the Catholic Church has adjusted it’s behavior dramatically. Just take a look at Star Quest Production Network (SQPN), founded by Dutch Fr. Roderick Vonhögen, Chief Executive Officer of SQPN. The Board of Directors are doing everything in interactive marketing in a great way.

How about donating through PayPal? What if SQPN would sell Catholic merchandise in an Amazon affiliated catholic e-shop? What if SQPN would be using Google Maps to find Catholic Churches in your area? How about iPadre Catholic audio and video podcasts?

Read SQPN’s mission statement or amaze yourself and read Apostolic Letter of Pope John Paul II, where explains how important digital media are to the Catholic Church. Or read more at Wikipedia about SQPN.

My message to brand marketers around the world: you can’t ignore the digital revolution forever. Take Fr. Roderick Vonhögen’s SQPN as an example of having faith. If the Catholic Church is able to switch to viral marketing and social media you can do the same! Please share us your thoughts about SQPN!

Does this mean people can send hail marie’s and confess to God through Facebook, rather than having to go to church?

Seriously though, it’s interesting to see something which is sooo old fashioned embracing a completely new technology. Should be a great kick up the ass of many marketers, I mean if a priest can use it effectively then surely they should be using it?!

Btw, Vonhogen must have lived in the States at some point in his life - he’s got a near perfect Yank accent!
