Viral Friday: David Blaine Street Magic

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to ThoseLilRabbits with their David Blaine Street Magic: YouTube Edition!. World-famous American illusionist David Blaine had his break-through with the television special “David Blaine: Street Magic”. Four guys who call themselves ThoseLilRabbits spoofed the famous street illusionist and score majestically on YouTube.

The runner up spot is for Barely Political with Obama Girl Returns for Iowa!. The sexy Obama Girl is back! In her latest video she competes with Hillary Clintons campaign to help Barack with his battle for presidency. JibJabs 2007 Year in Review completes this week’s top 3. JibJab is well known for their comic political internet videos. The Spiridellis brothers launched a new, hilarious animation video in which they review 2007.

1. David Blaine Street Magic (Part 3)

World-famous American illusionist David Blaine began his career on the streets doing card tricks and illusions (this is also known as ‘street magic’). His break-through came with the television special “David Blaine: Street Magic“. Since that show, Blaine did lots of bizarre stunts, like letting himself bury, freeze and being locked up in a water storage tank for a week. His coming stunt is planned for May 2008 in Central Park, where he will try to stay awake as long as possible. In 2006 four guys who call themselves “ThoseLilRabbits” made a parody to the famous street illusionist, called David Blaine Street Magic: YouTube Edition!. The video was viewed over 10 million times in very short time. Early December 2007 they released part 2 and late December part 3 followed. The third edition was viewed 2.3 million times in just a week.

2. Obama Girl Returns for Iowa!

The sexy Obama Girl is back! In her latest video she competes with Hillary Clintons campaign to help Barack with his battle for presidency. And it worked! Last night the first presidential pre-elections were held in Iowa and democrat Barack Obama celebrated a historic victory. This especially helps Obama make his way into the oval office, with the support of 38% of the democrats. Big loser of the evening was Hillary Clinton. Previous videos of Obama Girl are: I Got a Crush…On Obama, Obama Girl vs Giuliani Girl, I Like a Boy and Bush, You’re So Lame. 3. JibJab 2007 Year in Review

JibJab, created by the brothers Gregg and Evan Spiridellis in 1999, is famous for their comic political internet videos. Some of their classics are Bush/Kerry: This Land, Good to be in DC and Second Term. The internet video producer and video share site from Santa Monica now released another hilarious video in which the year 2007 is reviewed. The animation video, titled “2007 Year in Review”, would not be complete without Britney Spears, Alberto Gonzalez, Michael Vick and the iPhone. Therefore JibJab put all these in one Year Review.

4. Human Tetris

After previous videos like Pole Position, Space Invaders and Pong, Swiss artist Guillaume Reymond, of the creative agency NOTsoNOISY, now released the fourth video of the GAME OVER Project series, titled “Human Tetris”. The stop-motion video was recorded last November 24th during the “Les Urbaines” festival in the Palais de Rumine (Lausanne, Switzerland) and got half a million YouTube views in less than a month.

5. The End of the World


In the above video, made by rx2008, we see and hear president Bush “singing” the end of the world is near. You may know rx2008 from his The Clash – Should I Stay or Should I Go, U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday or John Lennon – Imagine/Lou Reed – Walk on the Wild Side videos in which he makes Bush and Blair sing songs. The songs are composed by arranging soundbites taken from speeches from this world leaders.

6. DoubleYou Live Christmas Card

After the successful and original video Feliz 2007 by DoubleYou from Madrid, who won three awards (CdeC 2007, Merit Award Art Directions Club 2007 and Imán de Plata 2007), the Spanish company now launched a new holiday video, titled “DoubleYou Live Christmas Card”. After two weeks the video got around 100.000 YouTube views.

7. Handbell Hero

Especially for the holidays VML, a digital branch of Wunderman in the United States, developed it’s own version of Guitar Hero. The advergame is very popular in the blogosphere, over 250 blogs wrote about the online game.

8. Feliz Navidad Tiempo BBDO Barcelona

2 Girls 1 Cup was one of the most popular phenomenons of the past year. The video caused a stunning 5.000 video reactions and gave rise to several spoofs. Especially for the holidays Tiempo BBDO Barcelona recorded a video with several reactions of people watching an internet video. Tiempo BBDO sends internet users who are curious about the real video the following link. In three weeks time the viral video of the Spanish company got over 100.000 views. (Source: Pixel y Dixel)

9. Rock Her World

A 37 year old American model claims five million dollar reimbursement from jewelers business Szul Jewelry Inc. In the jewelers commercial the model fakes an orgasm. ‘Rock her world, jewelry works every time’ is the suggestive payoff that appears at the end of the clip. The model got 200 dollars for her cooperation, but she claims she never signed a contract for the company to use the footage in a commercial or advertisement. She never knew the final result would be that sexual and now she demands money, because her profound image suffered unrepairable damage. Several news sites, like FOX News and Herald Tribune, published the report from Associated Press with a link to the YouTube video.

10. The Book of Spam

To promote “The Book of Spam: A Most Glorious and Definitive Compendium of the World’s Favorite Canned Meat” Dean Black and Dan Armstrong of BBDO Minneapolis made a stop motion viral video and a “the making of” video. Both videos can be seen on the special website www.toastvertising.com. The 208 pages thick book can be ordered at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Powell’s Books and the Spam Store.
