HBO Launches YouTube Video Sharing Channel

Written by Igor Beuker on February 29th, 2008 | no comments

With Def Comedy Jam and series like Entourage HBO is my favorite TV Broadcaster. When I vist New York, I always buy some DVD boxes at the HBO store.

HBO Channel

I was delighted when I read that HBO and YouTube have reached a deal in which YouTube will create a channel, giving users access to clips from popular HBO shows and full episodes of budding shows. See the HBO YouTube Channel here.

Fans will now be able to legally pass along clips from some of their favorite shows, as well as watch complete episodes of new shows they might want to add to their viewing repertoire.

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on February 29th, 2008 | no comments

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 10 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Jimmy Kimmel: I’m F*cking Ben Affleck. About a month ago comedian Sarah Silverman embarrassed her boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel with the hilarious song ‘I’m Fucking Matt Damon’. But now the popular talk show host takes revenge on his lady with the video ‘I’m Fucking Ben Affleck’. The runner up spot is for Star Wars according to a 3 year old. A cute 3 year old girl explains the plot of the science fiction movie Star Wars: Episode IV. Nokia completes this week’s top 3 with Nokia Morph Concept. Since the beginning of this week visitors of the “Design and the Elastic Mind” exposition in the New York Museum Of Modern Art can admire the Nokia Morph concept.

NPCA Goes Viral: Elect A Bear For President

Written by Igor Beuker on February 28th, 2008 | no comments

NPCA’s new campaign is tapping into the US elections with a smile. And is using viral videos and social media in a smart way. NPCA hopes to get the candidates to address national park issues while on the campaign trail.

The National Parks Conservation Association recently launched a political campaign to elect its own candidate for president: Teddy Mather, a bear from Shenandoah National Park.

NPCA has relied heavily on the use of videos in Teddy’s campaign, hoping to spread his message virally. Y&R Chicago created several pro-bono videos for the campaign. The humorous videos offer testimonials, by people and animals alike, supporting Teddy’s position on the national parks… and urging voters to ignore the fact that he does not wear pants.

While the campaign videos are clearly tongue-in-cheek, the message to make national parks a national priority can be heard throughout each video. NPCA has posted the new campaign videos on the candidates’ website. But NPCA also launched them on Teddy’s MySpace page and on YouTube.

Create Your Own Hugo Boss Campaign

Written by Daan Jansonius on February 25th, 2008 | 2 comments

User created content is still a point of contention for marketeers. Some companies are wary of ‘giving’ their brand to the consumer, others have no problem in doing so. We recently covered a few companies who have used a user generated platform to great effect, such as Domino’s Pizza’s pizza builder and Red Bull’s Flight lab. And also companies who have failed to grasp how new marketing works, such as Hasbro and Subway and Quiznos.

Now Hugo Boss has decided to give it a go. The Belgian creatives from RockandRollAgency have created the Hugo Create campaign. Visitors of the website are stimulated to use the Hugo Generator Design Tool to create their custom illustration based around the Hugo Boss brand. The created design can be downloaded as wallpaper or sent to friends. And the best entries will be awarded with £500 in prize money.

Unscrew America: Teaching US Teens On Energy

Written by Igor Beuker on February 25th, 2008 | 2 comments

I just got a tip about a new viral campaign called Unscrew America. It’s a new youth-targeted campaign to get people to switch out their old lightbulbs. Campaign goal is to inform people about energy-efficient CFLs and LEDs - and also make sure people know that CFLs contain mercury and have to be properly recycled.

Unscrew America

The site is a mix of animation, photo elements and videos, with a flash-based, insane-ish navigation designed by Boom Design Group in New York. Their sister company Fluid did the music and sound, and edited the video content. There is also an Unscrew America YouTube Channel.

Unscrew America was founded by Lesley Chilcott, a producer of the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth and Roy Spence of GSD&M Idea City. Other campaign elements include TV starring Paul Reubens and Elizabeth Banks and shot by Mark Palansky at Company Films with special effects by Charlex NY.

ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to iBand. With the release of several musical iPhone applications it becomes easier to convert your Apple iPhone into a true instrument! And with instruments come bands, hence iBand! The runner up spot is for Ronald McDonald Insanity. A strange Japanese McDonald’s mashup video starring mascot Ronald rapidly spreads around the internet. With The Beatboxin’ Dog Tele2 Sweden completes this week’s top 3. Advertising agency Forsman & Bodenfors created this very funny sampler concept to recruit new customers.

MINI Cooper: Counter Counterfeit Commission

Written by Igor Beuker on February 21st, 2008 | no comments

Yes it’s an old skool UGC Viral campaign from Crispin Porter + Bogusky again, this time for MINI Cooper. I just needed to add this to our viral library.

Mini Cooper Counterfeit

In this campaign you will see how the Counter Counterfeit Commission is dedicated to put an end to the victimization associated with purchasing a counterfeit MINI Cooper. The CCC cooperates with MINI and international law enforcement to pursue criminals.

But there’s one other crucial partner we need to recruit: You. We can’t do this without You. Educate yourself about the problem. Learn how to detect a fake. Know when you’re being hoodwinked.

Together, we can put an end to this appalling injustice. Together, we can make our streets genuine once again. Lookup MINI Cooper Counterfeit.

Red Bull: UGC Concept Flugtag Flight Lab

Written by Igor Beuker on February 20th, 2008 | 1 comment

We do like hilarious UGC material, but we are mainly looking for compelling BGC (brand generated content) concepts and virals. Brands like Virgin Mobile, Virgin Atlantic and Burger King are a great catch for us, since they have lots of guts and thus also loads of glory.

redbull2.jpg

But Jeep, MTV and Red Bull are also rebellious brands that are on our watchlist. Red Bull launched a great concept called Flugtag Flight Lab.

In the Red Bull Flugtag Flight Lab users can built a plane or take a flight. It’s a fun and facilitating concept. Do you know more great campaigns? Don’t be a stranger and mail them to us!

Sexy Texting With Virgin Mobile: Let’s Have TXT

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on February 19th, 2008 | no comments

Virgin Mobile USA, the US wireless unit of Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, has launched on February 4, 2007, a website to help people learn the fine art of sexy texting and to promote their Wild Card cell phone and text messaging plans.

Let’s Have TXT

At Letshavetxt.com, developed by advertising agency McKinney out of Durham (North Carolina), visitors can work with a number of “trained professionals” to practice and hone their promiscuous adult texting in a safe, playful, but very live environment. It has been found a satisfying alternative to the real thing and it takes consumer engagement to a whole new level.
