Viral Friday: Bird Poops Into Reporter’s Mouth

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Bird Poops Into Reporter’s Mouth. A reporter working for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) got a rude surprise as a bird pooped in his mouth during a piece he was covering. The runner up spot is for The Vacationeers with Google Maps Gone Wrong. This Los Angeles based comedy group made a hilarious video about the Google Maps Street View feature. Australian beer brand Brewtopia’s “Slap Corey” completes this week’s top 3. Brisbane based advertising agency Vivo Group made this game starring party boy Corey.

1. Bird Poops Into Reporter’s Mouth

A reporter working for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) got a rude surprise as a bird pooped in his mouth during a piece he was covering. The bird pooped the reporter on his shoulder first, causing the reporter to look up. As he did so with his mouth open, the bird pooped again, landing right into his mouth. This funny news blooper got over 1 million YouTube views in just one weeks time. Google’s Hot Trends chart (January 30th), a combination of Google Zeitgeist and Google Trends, shows people across the world search for the video. The bird poo blooper is a staged accident and a viral video for soft drink brand Frumondah (which could well be a hoax as well since a Google search for the brand does not return any substantial results… Also check the “making of” of the viral, directed by Bob Odenkirk. 2. Google Maps Gone Wrong

Los Angeles based comedy group The Vacationeers made a hilarious video about the Google Maps Street View feature. Shortly after the introduction the Google service was criticized because of it’s very detailed panoramic photographs of several American cities. The photographs are detailed enough to see what is going on inside people’s houses. Late 2007 Google announced the European version of the service will have no visible faces and license plates and the company is also thinking about doing the same with the U.S. version of the product. The “Google Maps” viral was viewed more than 1 million times on Break and YouTube.

3. Slap Corey

Brisbane based graphic design agency Vivo Group made the game “Slap Corey” for Australian beer brand Brewtopia. The brewer made this special web page for party boy Corey. Shortly after launching the site on January 18th over 320.000 visitors politely slapped Corey. After two weeks almost 900.000 people visited the web site. On the Australian YouTube 7 out of 20 top ranked video’s are related to the teenager, including Scott Dooley’s tribute: The Naughty Corey Song. (Source: The Daily)

4. Fuck Planet Earth

Max Goldberg, initiator of the YTMND online community, made this spoof to the BBC nature documentary Planet Earth. The video can be seen on several video portals like YouTube, Break and Will Ferrell’s Funny or Die and scores good with over 800.000 views.

5. Fifa Street 3

Last week American developer, marketer, publisher, and distributor of computer and video games Electronic Arts exposed seven screen shots of Fifa Street 3. Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam made this Fifa Street 3 viral video. GoViral took care of the seeding. In just one week time the video got about 500.000 views on Dailymotion, Break and YouTube. The game will be released on February 18th in the United States. (Source: Nu.nl)

6. Subaru DC Mountain Lab 1.5

DC Shoes, owned by Quicksilver since 2004, is an American based footwear company that specializes in manufacturing skate- and snowboard shoes. The company was founded in 1993 by Ken Block and Damon Way, pro skateboarder Danny Way’s older brother. Ken, a snowboarder himself and Subaru Rally Team USA driver, took the DC Snowboard team to New Zealand to shoot DC’s latest video Mountain Lab 1.5. (Source: Wikipedia, Dutchsnow.nl)

7. Star Trek

J.J. Abrams, the producer of the Cloverfield movie, launched jet another viral campaign for one of his films, Star Trek. On the movie’s official website blinks a small red dot which leads you to the ‘secret’ site www.ncc-1701.com, where we see 4 blurry web cam video’s of the USS Enterprice NCC-1701. 8. KitKat: Ultimate break

Advertising agency JWT Paris made this groundbreaking crossmedia campaign for the KitKat bar, produced worldwide by Nestlé, titled ‘Out of this World’. In part one of the “Ultimate Break” we see 25-year-old Remy in a Pixar alike video. Fase two will run from March till summer and will include the KitKat Ultimate Break Tour, where 400.000 euro can be won. (Source: Reclameweek)

9. Thriller on the District Line

In the above video we see a group of dancers getting up and performing a dance from Thriller on the District Line tubeline between stations. In the YouTube and Metro comments there are suggestions that this is promotional activity for the 25th anniversary edition of Thriller.

10. The Water Horse

To promote the movie “The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep” Columbia TriStar created a giant water-hologram over Tokyo Bay using water jets and and a water screen. The Water Horse is a Japanese “Loch Ness style” new movie about a sea monster.
