OpenSkies Builds Airline With Community Input

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on May 20th, 2008 | 2 comments

British Airways is planning to launch a new premium transatlantic airline, called OpenSkies, focusing on high-end travel experiences. The airline, which is scheduled to begin operations in June 2008, will initially fly daily from New York to Brussels and Paris with one Boeing 757 aircraft carrying up to 82 passengers in business, premium economy and economy sections.

A second aircraft will be added to the fleet later to fly to other European cities, including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Madrid and Milan. The plan is to operate six 757s by the end of 2009, all of which will be sourced from the current British Airways’ fleet.

Converse Japan: 100th Anniversary Community

Written by Igor Beuker on May 18th, 2008 | 2 comments

I really like this smart community marketing approach of Converse in Japan. To celebrate its 100th anniversary Converse has launched the Thank You campaign in Japan.

I like how Converse invites, involves and thanks its loyal customers in the collaborative concept to further promote its shoes.

In this campaign Converse asks the users to become their advertising agency, and to carry out a series of actions to promote the brand. The better (and the more) they promote Converse, the more points they earn, points that can later be exchanged with products.

Audi A6: Great Performance & Digitally Yours

Written by Igor Beuker on May 17th, 2008 | no comments

Audi is an innovative car brand. But now Audi is taking it’s digital performance to the next level with the new Audi A6 micro site.

The site was created by BBH and GT. And you should really have a close look; the video experience of this site is very cool.

Also the design, interface and audio are integrated in a very nice way here. I really think many car brand managers should take a look at Audi. This is how an innovative brand with ambition must reveal itself online.

And too many car brands tear apart their innovative brand image by launching cheap, ugly, old fashioned and uninspired websites. Image goes further than launching a nice product gentlemen. It’s also how you present- and wrap it. And Audi seems to be digitally yours ;-)

Having said digitally yours, I’m still more impressed by Jeep’s social media strategy!

Mentos Runs Kiss Cams & Kiss Fight Campaigns

Written by Igor Beuker on May 17th, 2008 | no comments

Remember the Mentos & Diet Coke videos at YouTube? Well Coke did not like the movement, but Mentos embraced it. Both brands indeed looked very different at the same world.

But it seems that Mentos has really tasted the sweetness of interactivity and virals, because Mentos is launching many interactive kiss concepts around Europe.

See for example Mentos Kiss Cam: web interactivity reaches new levels? Use your webcam to kiss the girl in the video. The campaign was created by Perfect Fools and BBH London.

And I found another from Mentos, it’s coming soon: see Mentos Kiss Fight.

Electric Eel Shock: Multi Vision YouTube Idea

Written by Igor Beuker on May 17th, 2008 | 5 comments

Years ago Leon worked for a record label and he toured with Japanese band Electric Eel Shock. He sent me a Multi Vision YouTube idea from this band, which I had never seen before. I really was amazed by the smartness and creativity of this layered channel.

I have been playing with this Multi Vision idea for over one hour. But before you click to the channel and start trying yourself, please make sure you read and follow all the instructions carefully first. Then activate the 4 videos in the right order!

Are you ready? Enjoy your Transamerica Ultra Rock experience in glorious interactivity! Please let us know if you liked this idea! Or if you know more great creative ideas like this.

Medion Erazor: Viral Game Trailer Sissyfight

Written by Igor Beuker on May 16th, 2008 | 1 comment

Is your PC a Sissy? Get a tough one! This is the call-to-action in the recently launched viral game trailer of Medion Erazer, the world’s first gaming PC.

The game trailer was created by TBWA Germany and animation company Virtual Republic.

I really like the game trailer created by TBWA. And more important, so does the target group: hardcore PC users and gamers, based on many reactions online.

But if you think of closing the loop in viral marketing: with this hardcore online target group, why not also show the URL of Medion Erazer’s website in the end screen of this viral trailer?

Viral Friday: Jessica Alba Staring Contest

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on May 16th, 2008 | 5 comments

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 10 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to IBeatYou.com with Jessica Alba Staring Contest. After her lipsync adventure for online competition site IBeatYou, owned by her fiancé Cash Warren, Jessica now takes on another challenge. The runner up spot is for Apple Mac Music Video. 23-year-old filmmaker Dennis Liu, producer at BBDO New York, created this very creative clip for indie/pop/alternative musical duo The Bird and the Bee from Los Angeles. MUTO completes this week’s top 3. In his latest video Italian street artist Blu combines street art and stop motion.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 10? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

X-Travel: Dutch Viral Success With Boeing 737

Written by Igor Beuker on May 12th, 2008 | no comments

The viral commercial of Dutch travel company X-Travel was watched 2 Million times at YouTube in just 2 months. That makes it one of Holland’s best virals ever. See the Boeing 737 land on the mediterranean sea.

The viral commercial created by advertising agency YoungWorks, has boosted the prompt awareness of the relatively new young travel brand X-Travel. The number of passengers at X-Travel is expected to grow 30% this year. The viral has lifted purchase intent, increased the number of leads and opt-in database and has churned brand likability amongst screenagers.

Due to the success of the viral commercial, X-Travel has also launched a Making Of with subtitles, so our ViralBlog community will be able to understand.

I’m convinced this viral commercial will make more Dutch CMO’s aware of the power of the viral weapons of mass affection. But, I feel it’s a missed opportunity that no viral tracking tool like ViralTracker was used. The number of viral clip views are now only measured at YouTube; and viral experts know that X-Travel might not be aware of 2 million clip views at other social media, like blogs, forums, social networks and video portals.

Viral Friday: Guys Backflip into Jeans

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on May 9th, 2008 | no comments

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 10 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Guys Backflip into Jeans. Last year Ray-Ban’s viral “Guy catches glasses with face” became a huge internet success. Now we see a very similar video for Levi’s Jeans (according to Gawker). The runner up spot is for Humanitainment.com with The Empire Strikes Barack. Two weeks ago Humanitainment.com scored a Viral Friday top 3 ranking with their YouTube hit “Baracky: The Movie”, and now they do it again with “The Empire Strikes Barack”. Shark Surfer completes this week’s top 3. In the video, presumably for sun glasses brand Notorious, we see a surfer going out surfing with a white shark.

The Power of Social Media

Written by Daan Jansonius on May 7th, 2008 | 1 comment

For anyone who still has doubts about the power of social media, I recommend reading the story of James Karl Buck.

Twitter, the micro blogging platform, turned out to be his ‘get out of jail free’ card after he was arrested by Egyptian policemen.

On April 10th James Karl Buck, a UC Berkely graduate, was arrested in Egypt for taking photographs at a demonstration, Techcrunch reports. The first thing he did was utilise his Twitter network by texting the word ‘arrested’. Whether or not he was expecting Twitter to come to the rescue or it was just him telling the world what he was ‘doing’, it did prove to be the reason why he was a free man the very next day. (more…)
