Go!Animate: New Viral Animation Community

Written by Igor Beuker on September 30th, 2008 |

Last week I bumped into Go!Animate. I liked the site, concept and the fact that people with little animation skills (like me) can finally create and share animations fast.

Go!Animate is an entertainment site built for anobody to be able to create animations, one needs no background in animation or even advanced computer skills. The site community offers options to create, watch, myngle and to participate in contests.

Off course we immediately contacted Go!Animate and interviewed them. To create animations you don’t need to be flash-proficient etc. Advanced computer skills or not, this web site is kind of like elf-yourself in the sense that you can include even your friends in your self-created animations….

Also, goanimate.com has licenses with major networks. Go!Animate recently added Michelle Obama, Cindy McCain, and Sarah Palin to the roster. These democratic and republican party girls will join glass ceiling cracker Hillary Clinton in the political Go!Animate Line-up.

Already existing are Lieberman, Biden, and Cheney. OH! And until October 1st, users can win $5,000 just by creating an animation. Want to see something funny? Watch animation Sarah Palin is: Mucha Muchacha. Or watch Obama Watches Mucha Muchacha. I expect the Obama girl to be the next animation ;-)

Users can use wildly popular characters in their animations and mix these characters with Go!Animate political avatars, celebrity avatars, etc. Also, GoAnimate linked a deal with Emmy-award winning Paul Dini and Misty Lee for their Monkey Talk series.

Some reasons why Go!Animate can become a success:
1. Historically, only big professional studios can produce great TV series like animation. With the licensing deals, GoAnimate is helping all the little guys out there to produce their own TV animated Series.

2. GoAnimate is the perfect marketing tool for premium properties because we let their fans actively participate and play in that universe….

3. GoAnimate is the perfect productivity tool for people looking for unique animated messages and stories. Great for eCards, unique self-expression on social network profiles, perfect for classroom…

Relevant question I hear you asking already: cool, but how will they monetize their site? I think they have an interesting business model with 4 revenue steams.

The Go!Animate revenue model is made up of four distinct revenue streams:
1. Advertising on the site (traditional banner ads throughout whose placement can be customized to appear upon creation of specifically themed animations)

2. Product Placement through specific branding (it’s not just a beer in the animation, it’s a Heineken!)

3. Nominal Fees for Premium licensed characters (e.g., specific evil doers or love interests that add dimension to story lines)

4. Putting the Go!Animate technology behind other sites (Complete “walled gardens” within brand owner sites that are created and hosted by Go!Animate).
