Viral Friday: Wassup 2008

Written by Niels Bellaar on October 31st, 2008 | 2 comments

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to 60frames’s Wassup 2008. Eight years after the boys said “Whassup” to each other for the first time they are back on video again, but this time they aren’t peddling beer. The runner up spot is for Obama vs McCain Dance Off!. The two candidates fight their battle on the dance floor, because “The is only one place where the election should be decided … it’s on!”. Google’s 5 More Friends: Don’t Vote! completes this week’s top 3. Four weeks ago the Viral Friday #1 position was for the “5 Friends” campaign in which 30 celebrities told us how important it is to vote. Apparently the first clip did not have enough effect, so now there’s a second featuring even more celebs.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Chex Mix: Celebration Legends & Smack Talk

Written by Igor Beuker on October 29th, 2008 | 2 comments

Chex Mix the Sweet ‘n Salty snacks owned by Generall Mills Inc. recently launched Celebration Legends. At the campaign site 6 former NFL football legends are out of retirement and having an end-zone celebration-off. Vote for the best wiggle…

Chex Mix Celebartion Legends

Former Rebel running back Ickey Woods (far right on above photo), is one of 6 former NFL players taking part in Chex Mix’s Celebration Legends contest during this football season.

The competition pits the former celebration ‘gurus’ against each other for 12 weeks and lets viewers vote who wins the head-to-head match-up each week. Woods is famous for the ‘Ickey Shuffle,’ which he made famous as a rookie with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1988 en route to the Super Bowl XXIII.

I like the site design and Smack Talk. Here you can send a phone call to a friend or a video message. That reminded me of Player Talk, a service my last company o2 UK and Arsenal launched many years ago.

Trojan Condoms: ‘Evolve’ Viral Campaign

Written by Igor Beuker on October 25th, 2008 | 1 comment

To spark discussion, America’s No 1 condom brand Trojan launched in 2007 a new advertising and public information campaign titled “Evolve.” Using humorous and sometimes pointed imagery and viral videos, Trojan hopes get men and women thinking about worthiness, self-care and trust.

The immediate goal the “Evolve” campaign is to reframe people’s perceptions about carrying and using condoms. Condom use is integral to all the other rational, emotional, and biological issues that define our sexual health. Does my partner care enough about me, or do I care enough about myself, to use a condom?

Trojan’s message is straightforward: the use of condoms is a positive signal of personal responsibility and an expression of respect and consideration for one another.

The campaign is supported by viral commercials and print ads. Pigs play a major role in the new campaign. The strong community driven Evolve campaign site has user created videos, a how evolved are you quiz and a widget, to be part of the movement.

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Sean Ohlenkamp’s Palin As President website. Sean, Steve and Forrest show us what Sarah Palin would look like in the Oval Office. It’s amusing and disturbing. The runner up spot is for Terry Tate: Reading Is Fundamental. Terry Tate is back with three “Election Specials” videos in which he treats Sarah Palin to a ride on the Pain Train. Apple’s Bean Counter completes this week’s top 3. Apple released two new 30-second ads that manage to completely undermine Microsoft’s recent efforts to make Vista palatable.

Nykredit Street Masters: Viral City Center Golf?

Written by Igor Beuker on October 21st, 2008 | 4 comments

The viral campaign Street Masters created by the Danish viral agency Club Viral for Nykredit, Denmark’s biggest financial institute, caught my attention. Have your ever seen a golf tournament in a city center…

The campaign targeted house and apartment owners in Denmark. Campaign goals were: 1. to create 100.000 viral clip views in Denmark, 2. increase awareness of the Nykredit Masters (female golf tournament) and 3. increase the Nykredit brand preference.

The concept of the campaign fitted the communication strategy “Think New” (in Danish “Tænk Nyt”), under which Nykredit wanted to activate its sponsorship of the international golf tournament Nykredit Masters (held that weekend in Copenhagen).

Ray-Ban Augmented Reality: Virtual Mirror

Written by Igor Beuker on October 20th, 2008 | 9 comments

Did you try the Ray-Ban Virtual Mirror? You can download a 3D technology at the Ray-Ban site. Then connect your web cam. Next choose a Ray-Ban you like and see how you look in the Virtual Mirror…

I feel it’s an application that could help to spread the Ray-Ban brand online. But for sure its a relevant tool that drives consumer engagement and advocacy amongst peers. It will even drive store traffic and retail sales.

The Return Of Office Linebacker Terry Tate

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on October 19th, 2008 | 2 comments

Terry Tate, the meanest, baddest, and downright prettiest Office Linebacker around, is back and reminds US citizens to vote. In a new series of short videos “Terry Votes“, “From Russia With Love” and “Reading is Fundamental“, the governor of Alaska and the Republican candidate for Vice-President, Sarah Palin, is tackled by Terry following famously controversial interviews.

Lester Speight, the actor who plays the brash, voluble character, achieved significant recognition for his portrayal of Terry Tate: Office Linebacker in a series of 60-second Reebok commercials that first debuted during the 2003 Super Bowl XXXVII.
