ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Bizkit The Sleep Walking Dog. Bizkit, the dog, suffers from a disorder where she engages in activities that are normally associated with wakefulness while she is asleep; sleepwalking! The runner up spot is for Samsung with Extreme Sheep LED Art. After last week’s SSD Awesomeness Samsung now focuses on their LED TV department. They took to the hills of Wales armed to the teeth with sheep, LEDs and a camera. Forrest Gump In One Minute completes this week’s top 3. Students from the University of York filmmaking society obviously thought Forrest Gump is a great movie but took too long, so they did a remake.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Embed The Entire Campaign Message In A Viral?

Written by Matthijs Roumen on March 18th, 2009 | 20 comments

Today I came across an remarkable viral video from Samsung in which they do some awesome things with a herd of sheeps and LED lights. The viral kept spinning in my head. What will this do in terms of brand awareness? How high is the likability someone will go to the Samsung LED action page after seeing this viral video? Will the entertainment value be high enough to actively engage the viewer to visit the Samsung LED page?

For a change, not an in-depth case study of a social media strategy from my side. In this post I’d like to outlay a little question. Could you help me and share your opinion / expertise?

Eric Cantona Stars In New Renault Campaign

Written by Igor Beuker on March 17th, 2009 | 4 comments

As big football fan I used to be Eric Cantona when we played football in the old days. So I was surprised to see that Renault has recently launched an online video trailer of its web campaign featuring former Manchester United football star Eric Cantona with the New Renault Laguna. See the video trailer here…

The full-length campaign, entitled ‘Renault Laguna Eric Cantona: the encounter’, will be shown from 23 March in France and the United Kingdom. Check the Renault campaign site to discover a story about love, freedom and Mozart.

It’s a smart and simple viral commercial storyboard: Hire former “enfant terrible” Cantona to star in your online video. Next seed the video commercial. Do sit back, relax and enjoy it spreading as a viral weapon of mass affection.

Probably the video will also earn massive attention from newspapers and buzz at blogs, video sharing portals and social networks. And this is what Renault understood very well. We call it earning attention or earned media.

Southwest Airlines Safety Instructions Rap

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on March 16th, 2009 | 17 comments

Just came back from a wonderful week in New York City! On my trip I did some sight-seeing amongst which the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island, Empire State Building and the United Nations, visited Yale and Louis Lunch in New Haven and went on a quest in NY to find the typical Dutch bitterballs with Askfrasco.

Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant becomes Internet celebrity

Before my take-off I was given a dull pre-flight safety demonstration about the safety features of the aircraft. At South-West Airlines a flight attendant came up with a much more entertaining, surprising and engaging way of presenting the safety instructions, that requires audience participation of stomping and clapping.

Viral Friday: Samsung SSD Awesomeness

Written by Niels Bellaar on March 13th, 2009 | 9 comments

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Samsung SSD Awesomeness. Samsung technicians linked 24 of their 256GB SSD drives together in a RAID with the hopes of making the fast SSD drives even faster. And they did. The runner up spot is for Vodafone with Blackberry Drives Formula One Race Car. Initially some guys programmed a BlackBerry Storm to control a little toy race car and ended up with Lewis Hamilton controlling his McLaren F1 car with it. Andy Richter Car Ad completes this week’s top 3. Andy Richter, host of The Midnight Show, thought that car commercials do not reflect real life accurately, so he made one that does…

Ferrero: Viral Success With Great TicTac Micha

Written by Igor Beuker on March 12th, 2009 | 8 comments

Ferrero’s new viral campaign for TicTac is already a huge success in the Nordics. The TicTac viral video is starring the 16 years old boy from Uzbekistan named Micha Albacow. Micha plays various instruments made entirely out of TicTac boxes – drums, maracas and pan flute…

The event with Micha takes place at Strøget in Copenhagen, Denmark. The viral film was created by Karim Stoumann, founder at Danish viral and buzz marketing agency buzzanova and media agency Vizeum.

I feel it’s a clever and witty viral commercial with the TicTac product smartly used as epic center. And I like the TicTac Micha campaign site. Seeding in the Nordics was done by buzzanova, which resulted in over 220.000 clip views within a few weeks.

Due to the viral success of TicTac’s Micha in the Nordics, SocialMedia8 is now seeding Micha into the German social universe. Viral reach and ROI will be delivered by ViralTracker.

Brilliant Videos Of Sully’s Hudson River Landing

Written by Igor Beuker on March 10th, 2009 | 8 comments

It has been more than a month since captain Chesley Sullenberger landed his US Airways jet in NYC Manhatten’s Hudson River. But flight fanatics, gamers, animators and motion designers are earning massive attention with impressive animatimated videos recreating the miraculous landing on water. Here’s my favorite…

Most of them are using sims like Microsoft’s Flight Simulator to navigate the virtual skies over New York. Some of these wannabe pilots are going so far as to use recordings of the conversations between the flight crew and air traffic controllers to recreate the five minutes and 40 seconds of US Airways Flight 1549 with eerie accuracy.

I was really surprised and shocked by the internet again. This is so amazingly realistic. Especially with the original conversations between the pilot and the control tower added. What would we do without online video on the internet? Hope brand marketers are getting the power of online video embedded to their 2009 digital engagement strategies…
