Written by Niels Bellaar on March 6th, 2009 | 2 comments

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Blackberry VS Apple. This video, which was made without the permission of BlackBerry manufacturer RIM, depicts a blackberry bullet making a mockery of an apple in slow motion. The runner up spot is for Idiots Of Ants with their Wii Breakfast. Idiots Of Ants, a London based comedy sketch group who have performed sketches on BBC 2, Fox News, BBC Three and BBC Radio 4, made this parody of all the Wiimote peripherals. Clean Coal completes this week’s top 3. Crispin Porter + Bogusky and the Coen brothers made a commercial for the Reality Coalition advertising that there is no such thing as “clean” coal.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Skittles – Using Social Media As A Homepage

Written by Matthijs Roumen on March 4th, 2009 | 18 comments

Skittles amazed the entire marketing industry with their approach of the new Skittles homepage. Agency.com redesigned the Skittles homepage completely. All pages were replaced by existing platforms that include information or content on Skittles. It’s an improvement if you compare it with the old website, but how many steps did Skittles actually take forward with this new design?

Why Ryanair Needs A Social Marketing Agency

Written by Igor Beuker on March 2nd, 2009 | 12 comments

Last week Ryanair clearly showed why brands need a very experienced social media marketing agency. See how Ryanair made a classical mistake: it neglected the code of ethics that apply to the social space. Not a very smart move from a brand equity point of view…

What happened? Jason Roe an Irish freelance web developer, was poking around on Ryanair’s website when he found an interesting usability bug which “allowed users to obtain a 0.00 charge for their flights.” In short, Roe found a trick to fly for free.

Roe was quick to point out that he did not complete any transactions at the steep cost of £0.00, but did think it was relevant that someone from Ryanair should know of the error and perhaps even work to rectify the problem.

The response he received from Ryanair was unbelievably bizarre, and incredibly, brazenly, rude.
