The iPhone obviously was a real trendsetter in mobile phones. But lately it is getting more and more competition from a new OS; Google’s Android. With the ad below Motorola, Verizon and Android create a lot of buzz for what may be the next ‘iPhone’.
As every iPhone user knows, the statements in this video are all true. No lies involved. All the things you want the iPhone to do, Droid does (or so it promises). Now there’s a real second mover advantage; Apple set the bar, Android raises it.
There were videos circulating the internet that show the theft of the football mascots of three popular British football teams: Manchester United, Newcastle and Chelsea. At the end of the videos, viewers were prompted to visit the website Getyourmascotback, where the thieves revealed themselves as Special Olympics Great Britain.
Now, the organisation behind the sudden disappearance of the mascots released three ransom videos in which they demand donations in return for the freedom of the mascots:
The theft & demand for ransom of the three mascots are the fundaments of a national charity campaign to draw attention the efforts of Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB).
British indy rockband Editors have launched a new site that gives the impression that they have hacked into Google Street View, using it to stream their new album, ‘In This Light And On This Evening’.
The site allows users to navigate around selected London areas. Exploring the locations online reveals new night-time images commissioned by the band, along with songs from the new album being streamed.
Mediaweek reported that a group of the US largest media companies, advertisers and advertising agencies are banding together to accelerate the development of cross-platform TV measurement and the incorporation of audience measurement based on cable and satellite set-top boxes.
The group, which expects to announce its plans next month, hopes to commission new audience research that would provide single-source measures of video viewing across all platforms, including video on demand, time-shifting, and web video.
According to a report in the Financial Times, companies involved in the collaboration include media giants such as NBC Universal, CBS, Time Warner, News Corp., Viacom and Walt Disney, media agencies such as GroupM and Starcom MediaVest Group, and top advertisers such as Procter & Gamble, AT&T, and Unilever.

Google Wave is the web’s hottest new property, which allows users to swap messages, video, pictures, gadgets and links with one another. Millions of people out there are in fact stalking their lucky friends for a Google Wave invite.
Joe Sabia of Whirled Interactive from LA had been toying with Wave for just 24 hours and thought “we gotta do something with this…”. Together with his good friend Scott Chan he created the following highly entertaining video:
Joe came up with the idea 3 days ago, because he wasn’t satisfied with the current Google Wave videos. Joe Sabia sums up the reasons: “a) some don’t show the actual product, b) they sometimes fail to connect the product to people who don’t really understand the purpose and c) they could garner more excitement”.
Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
This week’s Viral Friday #1 position goes to Good-bye Twitter. Miley Cyrus quits Twitter and her fans are devastated, so she once more promotes herself via social media (and gets the attention). The runner up spot is for T-Pain Obama Auto-Tune. Jimmy Kimmel found out about the T-Pain iPhone app and lets T-Pain himself test the app on Obama. 1 Million FPS Slow Motion completes this week’s top 3. Slow motion videos are great, but how about slow motion videos in slow motion? 1 million frames per second, wow.
Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Earlier Laurens wrote about Anne Frank’s appearance on Youtube and now Auschwitz, the most infamous death camp in which millions of people died during World War II died, has joined Facebook. Well, they had but their page is no where to be found.
The article in the Guardian announcing the arrival of the page indicates it is yet unclear as to why the page has gone offline. I’d imagine that the bold move by the Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau has sadly backfired.
Is Twitter a hype or a trend, marketers mostly ask me at conferences. It switched from the hype to the trend stage already a while ago, is my answer. Off course I need to show compelling examples to proof my statement. How about this ingenious idea by Lufthansa: it’s planes are posting Tweets…
Off course it’s not the plane itself doing the Tweeing: it’s the airline. Lufthansa has set up a new and very cool service named MySkyStatus. It automatically posts the current position of flights to Twitter or Facebook, so your friends, co-workers or family can follow your travels.
