Recently we mentioned the very first article on ViralBlog written by our founder Igor Beuker, who announced, after his subscription to MyFootballclub.co.uk, that he proudly became, along with 50,000 other fans, the club owner of Ebbsfleet United.

With its purchase, Igor helped MyFootballClub to become the first online community to fully run a professional sports club in history. The only thing that Igor cannot control, is the daily team management.
But guess what Igor! Mexico Second division club Murcielagos takes it even further! The club has no coach; instead…. the team is fully managed by its fans!

To promote Air China in Sweden, and highlight the fact that it flies not only to China but to destinations throughout Asia, Air China have been using restaurant check-ins on Facebook in a cool concept.

The airline created partnerships with a number of popular Asian restaurants in Sweden, to act as ambassadors for Air China. At each restaurant guests were encouraged to check-in with Air China on Facebook as they sat down to eat.

After a few years of just focussing on gaining as many likes, friends and followers, brands slowly start to realize that real fan engagement is far more important than just showing a big number. IKEA is such a brand that goes beyond ‘the Facebook Like’.

The inspiration for this event was a Facebook group called ‘I wanna have a sleepover in IKEA’, which has almost 100,000 fans. IKEA allowed 100 of these fans the opportunity to spend one night in IKEA.

Nowadays practically everybody consults the web in any kind of way when it comes to purchase decisions. So for CMOs out there it’s vert important to understand that some aspects of digital marketing deserve more attention than others…

Consumers are checking different (online) sources for different product categories to seek information and reviews. They tend to go the company website for electronics, they rely on search for travel and they go to discussion forums to see what people think about different car models.

Patrick Crane worked in Marketing at Yahoo then became CMO at LinkedIn during the 4 explosive years. After the IPO he wanted to do something usefull with his life and is now using his social media experience working at Sungevity.com.

Yesterday Crane attended at an exclusive event in Amsterdam, organized by Zonline.nu, the Dutch partner of Sungevity.

Alibaba Group, China’s largest e-commerce company, is beta-testing a new social-networking-product called Laiwang, as the firm expands outside e-commerce to seek other revenue streams.

Alibaba Group, who acquired Yahoo China in 2005, is mainly known for Alibaba.com, which is a marketplace for buyers and manufacturers with products like ‘Android tablets below 100 dollar, big red tourist buses and even software to start your own social network. Laiwang is not their first attempt for trying to enter the world of social networks…

Playboy in Argentina came up with some interesting marketing for its Mariana Diarco issue: A Virtual Striptease, where visitors can sing like a rock star using their computer’s microphone, to which Diarco responds in true groupie fashion by revealing some nices photos
.

None of the guys in the demo video seem to be singing that well but you can see how this interactive game would entice the male audience to start singing.
