It’s an old skool user created Cillit Bang spoof: a very viral spot! The music in this VSPOT is inspired on the old Dutch ‘gabber house’ culture also know as Techno, which was also extremely popular in Germany too.
Check out this Barry Scott Cillit Bang Remix, created by JAKAZiD. But be aware, this VSPOT is not created by Reckitt Benckiser’s Cillit Bang, its a spoof. But I like it much better than the official Reckitt TV commercials.
Reckitt Benckiser’s Cillit Bang team gave this statement: “the Barry Scott character has appeared in a number of spoof websites and weblogs, created by people unconnected to the Reckitt Benckiser brand”.
OfficeMax scored a huge hit at the end of 2006 with their holiday viral marketing campaign: Elf Yourself. The elfyourself.com site allowed visitors to upload a photo and record a synchronized message through a special toll-free phone number. The face got attached to an animated elf body and the voice was processed to sound elf-like. The result: a dancing and talking elf that could be forwarded to family and friends or posted to personal Web sites or blogs.
Elfyourself.com got 200 unique visitors per second in 2006, creating 8 new elves per second. On Flickr and Youtube you can still find some Elf Yourself 1.0 examples. Last night I read on Bob Stumpel’s Everything 2.0 that Elf Yourself 2.0 will be launched soon. I guess they will also release a Facebook app. Looking forward to Elf Yourself 2.0.
The PS series are crucial to Sony’s profitability. At the Sony PS3 development and introduction the ignorant Sony marketing team and their agencies, forgot conversational tracking and refused to listen to influential gamers at game blogs and game forums. Sony could have seen the killing comments about the product specs and the pricing of their PS3….
Why did Sony miss so many opportunities to listen their die-hard PS3 fans? Why all the shouting through expensive tv ads, when gamers are spending large part of their day online? Another agency that says: we need a 30 second film (tv spot) to reach and engage your target group?
Why not a little bit of listening? Is Sony that arrogant or that ignorant? Or Both? Sony has disappointed so many PS3 fans, that even many of the hardcore Microsoft haters, switched from their Sony PS3 to the Microsoft XBox. Congratulations to Sony and their traditional advertising agencies. You just managed to push millions of very loyal fans, right into the arms of your main competitor Microsoft. And will that movement really be stopped by buying as many GRP’s as available at large tv networks?
Learnings: start conversational tracking (at blogs, forums, community sites and social networks) today! Understand that all brands should also listen to their loyal users. Yes Sir, product research and brand innovation is an important part of the marketing value chain. It’s not all about GRP’s or media power. If you don’t listen, anti-fans will get attention with viral video’s like this: Sony, How You Killed Your Brand.
Power to the people can be very viral sometimes. But only if the idea is compelling enough. And inviting 50.000 people to own their own UK football club seems to attract a lot of fans. Fans that will tell others, to join this community as well. I really hope that MyFootballClub will make that football history.
Since I like soccer and wisdom of crowds ideas, I joined and donated. If you know other great initiatives like this, please post them!
