Start A Band: Rock Band Bar Night
First there was GitarHero, than there was Rock Band, now there is Rock Band Bar Nights. In the US, bars can become official Rock Band bars to give their customers the change to hit the stage and rock in front of a live audience, rather than behind a TV-set.
The principle of the game is simple: you and three other friends can form a band and feel like an actual rock star in your own living room. You can play the lead guitar, bass guitar, drums or take the microphone. And playing the game on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 allows players to interact with other people anywhere and play the ‘Band World Tour’ mode.
The game was first introduced in 2007 by MTV Games and Harmonix and has grown quite an active community. At Rockband’s website, fans of the game can speak up in the Rock Band forums, check out stats and scores, sign up for Battle of the Bands and even create their own customized merchandising.
Next to their community, Rock Band also has an active Facebook fan base of over 297.000 rock stars, a Twitter page and an iPhone app.
Now, MTV games and Harmonix have taken the game ‘offline’ by having bars across the US organize Rock Band Bar Nights. In doing so, the company provided itself with new marketing and sales channels for their product: the venues are designated as official Rock Band Bars and get customizable marketing materials to promote their Rock Band Nights. And they might have found themselves a new target audience: the karaoke fans. Now, wait for the first Rock Band – Band to hit the charts!
