Apple Forced Into Tangle Proof Headphones?
That the internet has made the world transparent and has shifted power to the people is something most brands can’t get used to. I am curious if Apple will neglect or embrace this product improvement by Lee from London? Will his video hit our Viral Friday?
Lee Washington from London is currently studying product design. And he seems to be paying attention. In above video he is presenting an idea to prevent tangling of iPod headphones; when not in use, the two wires join together.
Lee was inspired to develop these headphones after having seen this woman on the train, struggle to untangle her headphones. Lee was very surprised to see his video hit over 123.000 views at YouTube and Vimeo within just 3 days.
Lee is currently in conversations regarding protection – patent law dictates that he has 12 months from release of the idea.
I think we all hope, that Lee has helped Apple to understand that the frustration of untangling headphones before you start listening to music, shows a need for new product development.

Absolutely brilliant solution! I’m struggling each morning with my Iphone earplugs when I step on my bike to work, so would love to have these ones!
Another thing Apple could pay attention to is the quality of the Iphone earplugs, these earplugs have a small microphone, which you can use for conversations, but the internal wires are coming out of the mic on booth sides after a month! I went to the Apple store but they wouldn’t help me…
If you look at the collective energy or wisdom of crowds, why do not all brands start their own digital idea box like i.e. Starbucks?

And yes Igor, I think brands are afraid and say things like “What if people start talking to us? What would we do? I bet that is time consuming, and we want to sell products so we don’t have time…” Yes I think brands (not all of the though) have a lot to learn.
Last I heard Apple had talks with a materials company (sorry, cannot disclose). Rather than looking for a solution of the end-product, Apple is looking at the source. Make the materials flexible enough to roll them around, but sturdy enough it doesn’t tangle.
