WhatsApp Reports Record Of 18 Billion HNY Messages
Happy New Year, make it count! Mobile messaging firm WhatsApp certainly did. It set a staggering record of 18 billion HNY messages, in just one day.
I wonder why bloggers hardly ever mention WhatsApp, IM or live-chat services as social media. How about this stunning WhatsApp record that was announced on their Twitter last week?
Today, WhatsApp is the hugely popular cross-platform instant messaging service that makes 2013 count in a way. And smashing its “old” record from August 2012. On that “one day”, it processed 10 billion messages.
Do you remember the world famous IM service MSN Messenger? Most of us used it for years.
Suddenly the service evaporated like fresh snow in the scorching heat of the desert sun. What happened?
My Opinion?
How was Microsoft able to neglect MSN Messenger as a troublesome stepchild? It must have been a strategic failure and lack of focus that destroyed this golden asset in a terrible way.
Next Microsoft (MSN) acted very phlegmatic in creating an overall (or meta) social media strategy. I feel they focused too long on the wrong battle: Boosting Bing, in the hope it would – one day – beat Google at search. To me it looked like false ego persistency.
Striking? Last months some “gurus” have frequently been speculating about the upcoming acquisition of WhatsApp by blue monster Facebook. Do you believe these rumors?
