Lady Gaga & Beyonce In YouTube Hit Telephone
Lady Gaga’s video for Bad Romance got over 150 million views, making it one of the most popular music videos in YouTube history. Now, the pop star teamed up with Beyonce and they are well on their way to obtaining the next YouTube Hit: almost 18 million views in less than 5 days.
The video takes over 9 minutes and can only be described as short film shock doc and definitely NSFW. Haven’t seen it yet? Watch the full version after the break.
Lady Gaga ft Beyonce – Telephone
http://www.veoh.com/videos/v19894381cRYj8bapThe entire video feels like a tribute to Tarentino and, as expected from the provocative pop star, is full of lingerie and nudity, sunglasses and impossible hairdos.
The video did not only generate millions of views, Lady Gaga now even is a Trending Topic in Twitter. Now my question is: do you consider this a YouTube hit or just 9 minutes not so well spent?

My question is: Are the majority of people that watch these viral videos dumb, because, honestly what’s the purpose of this. Or, is the word viral by itself so strong that makes you see anything that has that word in it?
And i would like to know actually how many people watched all the viral. I think it would give a good statistic, and would give an answer to the question i just made.
Maybe that’s the next step of viral tracker…?
@ Alexandre
Haha, that’s a judgement my friend. Does their need to be a purpose or is “let me entertain you” a must have factor seeing by the results
ViralTracker is not measuring this campaign, but it can already show how long a video is being watched and it shows the ratings and comments around a video: if people like it, and get it!
@ Mireille
Seems that the hit machine is running again, it looks like another weapon of mass affection and they might get over the 100 million views again…
This is 9 minutes of pure genius. It’s exactly what the music industry was missing on.
The genuine creativity the video is made of is the same creativity that makes OK Go’s videos and other bands’ videos so popular.
It’s something amazing. Sure this videoclip was made with a massive budget, but it’s not the technical means or prowess that makes it amazing, it’s the story, the invented world, the artistic direction, etc.
It is truly great.
On another note, have you seen how much product placement is in there?
@ Laurent
If we see the number of views we indeed do not have to discuss it very long: amazing indeed.
Written by Lady Gaga herself and Jonus Akerlund. Indeed also fully stuffed with product placements, but not in an intrusive way.
You are right: its setting a new benchmark for the music video industry.
Cheers
Igor
What’s really the cause of this great viral effect of a music video? I think it’s just that CNN said that the commercial was going to be banned on MTV. But after all MTV doesn’t banned it. Interessting article about this:

Gaga’s creative approach is not like OK GO. OK Go is a band that makes gorgeous witty videos that do very well on the web, but Gaga is actually created for the internet; she’s so incredibly crazy you just have to look and wonder ‘is this for real?’ The crazyness is easy to spoof, result: instant meme-dom.
Also: never underestimate the power of rauncy semi-naked females.
What I meant by “same creativity” is that both are proving to be outside boundaries of regular music videoclips. Obviously, it is really not the same style, but the strategy behind the creation is the same: to be truly astonishing. And that’s what’s generating the interest towards their videos.
And you’re absolutely right on the fact that showing “semi-naked females” is part of the reason why the popularity is so strong.

Cool article you posted. It’s a smart seeding or social media tactic.
If you refer that to music, artists or VIPS again, seeding is the new plugging. In the first years of Radio and many years after, pluggers tried to get the records played on the Radio to create a hit.
Janet Jackson was not selling many cd’s anymore and earned global attention with her Niple Gate “accident”
Paris Hilton needed a buzz boost and she stole one of her sex tapes (a $9,95 dvd) from a store. “Accidentally” her steeling was caught on CCTV, and major buzz was created. Like one of the thousands of sex tapes would have made the difference
The mass audience needs tricks like this. We massively “fall for it”.
And here it’s working again. Traditional media was this time used to create a weapon of mass affection.
And viral weapons of mass affection and YouTube hits get airtime on TV again.
Closing the loop?
Cheers
