Shane Dawson Spoofs: What’s The Hype About?
Shane Dawson thought: “What Lady Gaga can do, I can do better” and created a spoof of her newest video “Telephone”.
Lady Gaga got a lot of views for her video but I must say I’m amazed by the number of views Dawson already acquired: 1.289.722 in just 2 days.
Shane Dawson already has quite a history on YouTube. All of his videos get viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
How did this guy get so many fans? 1.373.006 people are subscribers to his YouTube channel and on Facebook he has more than 479.000 fans. I think it’s fascinating that Dawson is so enormously popular for making silly videos and… well, I think that’s it.
Of course when you are really good at something you get rewarded and appreciated by the people who like what you do. But this starting to make no sense at all. He actually got 2.586 likes on Facebook for a post that just said “so……tired…….”.
In the end, people like to be entertained and that is what he does (at least on YouTube). Still I think it can’t be that easy. Or is it?

I think it’s the new age of entertainment. And with social networks the gap between leaders and followers just become more intense. If something has an extreme success within a group you are targeted in.. probably you’ll watch, like it and pass it by, like a robot.
You’re right.. it’s not easy. Shane works hard at his craft and, along with natural appeal, deserves his following.
Certain YouTube celebrities, like Shane, have transformed fans into armies that are easily accessible and quick to mobilize.
Few offline celebs wield this big stick (Steven Colbert pulls this off) making this new celebrity much more powerful… especially under the auspices of social media.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s amazing what Shane Dawson has done. He is present on all the social networks and consequently so are his fans. But the thing I don’t get is WHY he has become so popular with such silly stuff (his t-shirts for instance). Steven Colbert is a comic, but what is Shane Dawson? Is he not just a kid with a camera, like so many on YouTube are?
This man is very familiar in youtube. Dude I salute on you. you’ve conquer youtube.
