Star Wars Used In Ad From Adidas Originals
Tomorrow is the day where the World Cup 2010 kicks off and with this latest ad, Adidas is giving Star Wars fans a reason to watch the 2010 World Cup. The shoe and apparal company has redone the cantina scene from the 1977 movie for its upcoming World Cup commercial. You’ve probably already seen the video by now and if you haven’t – be sure to do it NOW.
Adidas gathered Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, David Beckham, ian Brown, Noel Gallagher and other celebrities to re-create Star Wars’ Mos Eisley Cantina scene.
I don’t know if the ad has a lot (anything) to do with soccer or the World Cup, but it’s well produced and sure has a lot of celebrities in it
. And it sure got a lot of online buzz and has generated more than 2,5 million views within just one week. Wonder if the high number of views mainly is caused by the Star Wars theme? What do you think of the ad?

I think that everyone agrees that the use of the Star Wars theme is a bit questionable due to related nerdy connotations. I, however, believe that this has to do more with “politics” rather than the viral potential of the theme.
Its a bit too long to discuss here, but you are welcome to check out our blog where we I spoke about that clip a few days ago: visit: http://passioncapitalists.wordpress.com/ if you are interested.
I think this is a great promo! It’s really well done and has a lot of attention to detail.
Boogie Studio remixed all of the original Star Wars cantina sound effects and character dialogue with the new ones from the celebrities and other characters.
It’s a fun campaign and a great way to kick off FIFA 2010.
