The Muppets Did It Again: Beaker’s Ballad
First there was Bohemian Rhapsody and now the Muppets did it again. They are conquering the Internet with a viral video, this time it’s Beaker mee-ing along to ‘ Dust In The Wind’. As Beaker is performing behind his computer, the comments of YouTube viewers are popping up directly and all over the video. ‘Disasterpiece’, ‘Worst vid on here’ and ‘FAIL’ are just some of the comments that make poor Beaker totally frustrated.
The video was created by MuppetStudio, which is now part of Disney. Just a few months ago, in November, with the release of Bohemian Rhapsody, we wrote an article on the Muppets and how Disney was trying to reintroduce the old time favorite puppets. I think we can all agree that the The Muppets have proven to really understand the Internet
The MuppetStudio is interacting with its fans and reaching out to a new audience, making good use of social media. The Muppets have a YouTube channel, a Facebook page, a Twitter account. There is even an iPhone app where you can build your own monster with Elmo. There is the Muppet Wikia as well. Oh, and not to forget their news blog the “Muppet Newsflash”.
In short, the Muppets are everywhere and show that they know how to engage their audience. So guys at MuppetStudio, just let to good stuff coming. Talking of good stuff: I cannot end without saying that ttatler and Waldorf are hilarious: “Absolutely. Let’s keep digging till this thing is buried!”

ahah love it! apparently the muppets are doing pretty good in social media! great viral!
I have to say its my least favourite muppet viral so far. Although I have to hand it to Disney, they have their viral marketing nailed for the Muppets. There’s a Muppet film due this year and each viral is building a bigger and bigger fanbase which should turn into ticket sales for the film. So I reckon we’re going to be seeing a lot more of the Muppets in 2010.
I blogged about their whole social media strategy at the start of November – http://www.mrlukeabbott.com/marketing/the-great-muppet-social-caper/
