Unauthorized WWF Video To Become Viral?
Just in time for the anniversary of 9/11, last Tuesday, a controversial Tsunami print ad for World Wildlife Fund (WWF) popped up at several blogs and news sites worldwide. The ad was created in December 2008 by a team at DDB Brazil.
The team that created the ad, is no longer with the agency. DDB Brazil apologizes to anyone who was offended or affected by the ad. “It should never have been made and it does not portray the philosophy of the agency”.
Yesterday, a video version of the ad was uploaded on Youtube, showing dozens of planes headed for lower Manhattan. Many people commented that the video is even more tasteless than the original print ad, others find it a strong and creative way to make a statement.
Check out the video and tell us what your opinion is.
Obviously, WWF is not very amused with the ad and video. Therefore they published an official note of clarification immediately. But Adweek mentioned today, that the Brazilian WWF did approve the ad in 2008, as mentioned in an e-mailed statement from DDB.
Looks that all ingredients are there for the video become viral. Let’s see if this will reach our Viral Friday.

We embedded a new version, the original one was removed by DDB Brasil…
I think it is very strong and gets people thinking about our planet. I have to admit I got goosebumps seeing all those planes fly towards the city…
http://tinyurl.com/ma3awe Yes, of course I’m offended. I just don’t know if I think it’s startlingly effective. Or just offensive.
We’ve updated the posting again, with a new embedded video player, now from Break.com.
it is over and get over it and get a life, for the victims of the family my sincere apology for the low life scum comments, they might think that it is funny how cruel for those sad low lives, the families have moved on and i have 2 life is about love and loss of a loved one and not some low life scum sucker loosers , how would you feel if it was a loved one of yours, there is no hope for u with your therapy but with gods love and forgiveness there is a light at the end of the tunnel, understand their disabilities but not forgive or forget but stand up for your rights and what you believe and that god is there for you and that is your way to eternal life and happiness for ever, now I am not a religious person but this is my calling.
Of course it’s horrible what happened at 9/11, but there’s so much horror more in the world, even when you read this comment right now.
I understand many Americans are offended by this ad, if 9/11 wiuld have happened in my country, I would probably feel the same. But what offends me, is that many Americans (not all of them of course) are so focussed on their own, personal situation. Wake up, there’s another world out there besides your own country. Innocent people are dying every day, just as the people that died ar 9/11. Does Dafur, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, and Kasmir. Just some random examples of countries/regions where people are dying evey day due terrorism or cicil war.
Regarding the ad, to make a comparison: the message is veryy clear. But on the other hand, I find the concept cheap an tastless. If you’re reaaly creative, you should come up with a better idea.
