Vattenfall Climate Signature: Buzz In Brussels

Written by Igor Beuker on November 5th, 2008 | no comments

Vattenfall has launched a climate initiative, inviting individuals to sign the climate manifesto to make their voices heard as support for political decisions necessary to combat climate change. 2 Weeks ago I walked through Brussels and saw these 75.000 orange puppets…

The climate signature initiative invites everyone to sign the manifesto and to make their voices heard. The initiative started in Brussels, where I witnessed this cool buzz worthy campaign.

I really like the Vattenfall campaign site: simple and clean design and it clear and pleasant usability. The buzz tour will also go to Berlin and other cities near you.

Dem Social Media Bones

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on November 4th, 2008 | 1 comment

Dem Bones or Dem Dry Bones is a famous spiritual poem and song, sometimes used in Bible school and pre-school to help children learn basic anatomy. The melody has been credited to American educator and early civil rights activist James Weldon Johnson and the lyrics to Dem Bones are based on the Book of Ezekiel.

Over the years, the song has been covered by The Delta Rhythm Boys, Shirley Caesar and many other artists. And also last year by award-winning London-based ad agency Lean Mean Fighting Machine, founded in 2004 by 4 former Tribal DDB executives, who launched an alternative ’social media flavoured’ version titled “Dem Phones” as 2007 Christmas card for self-promotion and recruitment.

There are so many posts out there teaching you how to make your Blog go viral, but how do you make your Twitter go viral? If you look at the top followed people on Twitter, you’ll notice that they are followed for reasons outside of Twitter. For example, Kevin Rose is the founder of Digg, so many people follow him just because of his popularity with Digg.

Dopplr: For Smart Social Business Travelers

Written by Igor Beuker on November 1st, 2008 | 6 comments

The brand name really gives me a web2.0 deja vu: Dopplr. It is a social service for business travelers. Dopplr lets you share your future travel plans privately with friends and colleagues.

Dopplr

The service then highlights coincidence, for example, telling you that three people you know will be in Paris when you will be there too. You can use Dopplr on your personal computer and mobile phone. It links with online calendars and social networks. They’ve also got a weblog.

Viral Friday: Wassup 2008

Written by Niels Bellaar on October 31st, 2008 | 2 comments

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to 60frames’s Wassup 2008. Eight years after the boys said “Whassup” to each other for the first time they are back on video again, but this time they aren’t peddling beer. The runner up spot is for Obama vs McCain Dance Off!. The two candidates fight their battle on the dance floor, because “The is only one place where the election should be decided … it’s on!”. Google’s 5 More Friends: Don’t Vote! completes this week’s top 3. Four weeks ago the Viral Friday #1 position was for the “5 Friends” campaign in which 30 celebrities told us how important it is to vote. Apparently the first clip did not have enough effect, so now there’s a second featuring even more celebs.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Chex Mix: Celebration Legends & Smack Talk

Written by Igor Beuker on October 29th, 2008 | 2 comments

Chex Mix the Sweet ‘n Salty snacks owned by Generall Mills Inc. recently launched Celebration Legends. At the campaign site 6 former NFL football legends are out of retirement and having an end-zone celebration-off. Vote for the best wiggle…

Chex Mix Celebartion Legends

Former Rebel running back Ickey Woods (far right on above photo), is one of 6 former NFL players taking part in Chex Mix’s Celebration Legends contest during this football season.

The competition pits the former celebration ‘gurus’ against each other for 12 weeks and lets viewers vote who wins the head-to-head match-up each week. Woods is famous for the ‘Ickey Shuffle,’ which he made famous as a rookie with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1988 en route to the Super Bowl XXIII.

I like the site design and Smack Talk. Here you can send a phone call to a friend or a video message. That reminded me of Player Talk, a service my last company o2 UK and Arsenal launched many years ago.

Trojan Condoms: ‘Evolve’ Viral Campaign

Written by Igor Beuker on October 25th, 2008 | 1 comment

To spark discussion, America’s No 1 condom brand Trojan launched in 2007 a new advertising and public information campaign titled “Evolve.” Using humorous and sometimes pointed imagery and viral videos, Trojan hopes get men and women thinking about worthiness, self-care and trust.

The immediate goal the “Evolve” campaign is to reframe people’s perceptions about carrying and using condoms. Condom use is integral to all the other rational, emotional, and biological issues that define our sexual health. Does my partner care enough about me, or do I care enough about myself, to use a condom?

Trojan’s message is straightforward: the use of condoms is a positive signal of personal responsibility and an expression of respect and consideration for one another.

The campaign is supported by viral commercials and print ads. Pigs play a major role in the new campaign. The strong community driven Evolve campaign site has user created videos, a how evolved are you quiz and a widget, to be part of the movement.

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Sean Ohlenkamp’s Palin As President website. Sean, Steve and Forrest show us what Sarah Palin would look like in the Oval Office. It’s amusing and disturbing. The runner up spot is for Terry Tate: Reading Is Fundamental. Terry Tate is back with three “Election Specials” videos in which he treats Sarah Palin to a ride on the Pain Train. Apple’s Bean Counter completes this week’s top 3. Apple released two new 30-second ads that manage to completely undermine Microsoft’s recent efforts to make Vista palatable.

Written by Paul van Veenendaal on October 22nd, 2008 | 2 comments

Exactly one year ago I wrote the article “Facebook Frenzy” with an overview of Facebook users by country. Time for an update!

CEO Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook
