For quite a few Star Wars fans, a dream has come true. They are getting a chance on 15 seconds of fame, literally, by recreating one of the Star Wars Movies.

On the Star Wars Uncut website the movie Star Wars: A New Hope had been cut into scenes of 15 seconds. Fans can claim these scenes (up to three in total) and film them using their own resources. In the end, the movie will consist entirely of user generated content.

There are only a couple of rules the aspiring filmmakers have to follow, most of which stress the point that people be creative and don’t cling to the original too much. The idea was an initiative of Casey Pugh from Vimeo.

The whole project should be finished by December and might be made into a DVD as well. Everyone who’s interested can read the blog and follow the project on Twitter. For those who can’t handle a camera but really want to make the project happen, making donations is also possible. At the moment, the movie is 72% complete. More of these initiatives will be launched if the project turns out into a success. Which it undoubtedly will, given the fact that Star Wars fans have always been a pretty creative crowd using words as well as images.

Though it is pretty cool to crowdsource an entire movie, the result may be a bit overwhelming. Imagine watching a movie where the backgrounds, characters’ appearances and type of animation changes every 15 seconds!
