Is There No Future For Mobile Social Media?
Not really. According to eMarketer mobile platforms and location-based networks could actually take social marketing to the next level. Now there’s something to work with. Especially when seen in relation to another trend, the amount and kind of apps we use on our smartphones.
On it’s blog Nielsen writes that “according to the latest edition of The Nielsen Company’s Apps Playbook, the average number of apps that smartphone app downloaders have on their phones is now 27, up from 22 in December 2009.” So we use more apps, but how does that affect mobile use of social media?
On one hand games continue to be the most popular category by far, with 61% of smartphone owners and 52% of feature phone owners reporting using a games app in the past 30 days. And on the other hand social gaming is probably the biggest trend in social media today.

And with Facebook being the most used app (second most used on Android) on the major mobile operating systems the next big thing could very well have something to do with “location based mobile social gaming”.

Especially interesting since, according eMarketer, US marketers surveyed in June 2010 believed mobile social would have important consequences for their brand. We are excited to see how this develops, any thoughts?
