The Current State Of Social Networks 2012
It’s sometimes very difficult to get the most recent information about social networks, all in one place. All aligned nicely with sources, methodology of research and data.
Than the other question related to these data is how many social networks can you actively stay up to date on? Here are the most recent statistics of 59 social networks in one place, enjoy!
Since 2008 Ignite Social Media has been producing detailed stats of the most important social networks. Including data about the demographics of their users, the geographies in which these networks are popular and how often they are searched for.
Now it’s already their fifth report that takes a detailed look at the competition for social network membership is a worldwide battle. Maybe Facebook is still the biggest in most countries but there are other strong local players, for example Vkontakte in Ukraine and Russia.

Hi,
Great collation of interesting data! Quick question, what markets are included in the survey? Are the stats based on global? I´m missing Germany in there, hence the question.
Best,
Susanne
Hi Susanne, the study and thus the data are global. I’m also interested in some local stats, wondering if these are available from Ignite Social Media
Thanks Mr. Martin for this post, you have gone through an excellent survey I like it a lot and what I feel now a days Linkedin and Skpye are in more and more use……….
You are very welcome, data are golden nowadays. Pity there are not that many available…always struggling when looking for details. The details that matter.
This is really amazing coalition of data. I am really surprised to see the patterns. It is for sure that Pinterest is a big player in the market now and soon we will see businesses getting involved in it too.
Wow, that is a lot of data gathered together and since these data are gathered on a global scale I would recommend you this site: http://www.socialbakers.com/facebook-pages/ where you have data from all the important social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn and YouTube) and you can sort them according to various categories, countries, Facebook tags… It really is good source for well-arranged data.
Yes, SocialBakers are nice resource indeed. Just wondering if there will be similar stats of users per country for Twitter and YouTube available soon. Would be great!

Fantastic information!
Interesting. The infographic is very comprehensive and detailed. I think that even there is an implied decline in the usage this year, it will never decline further. Considering the number of sites growing and being developed, people will always be curious and will surely try it out once launched. So I think the trend, if it will not increase, will maintain. By the way, hasn’t Friendster already stopped? And I think I didn’t encounter Multiply.
