Yesterday, Audi released the first of six episodes of the movie “The Next Big Thing”, featuring Justin Timberlake and Dania Ramirez.

The trailer already launched in April and was promising and we’d better be prepared. But did Audi deliver?

In the first episode we see John Frank, played by Justin, in a café where he meets the attractive and mysterious Toni (Dania Ramirez) who is being followed. Before he realizes, John is dragged into a A1 and driven into “The next big thing”-action. In the press release Audi states:

“It’s all about the A1, of course. And yet the new, compact Audi A1 stays in the background with elegant restraint. Little wonder, as Justin Timberlake and Dania Ramirez plunge into a suspenseful, mysterious story – through six episodes that can be viewed online. And on the Internet, the lines between reality and fiction are often blurred. Who is this John Frank, played by Justin Timberlake? What has he been involved in? The first clues can be found in episode one, starting today.”

Audi teamed up with the Heimat Agency, who are responsible for concept, design and implementation of the episodes. Swedish Henrik Sundgren is directing and here are some numbers: five days, eight cameras, 40 actors, 100 staff members and a total of 16 minutes of film.

The video was posted in the Audi YouTube channel and our friends at ViralTracker are tracking it to see if has viral potential. Honestly, I was a little disappointed by the first episode. Maybe it’s because it’s just the first episode and story is building up, but I am not quite sure what to expect next…

However, what I did enjoy is the entire experience around the movie. Up until the 8th of June, Audi is releasing a total of 6 episodes. In between these episodes, Audi is providing fans with enough of “backstage” entertainment online. At the special micro site, people can get to know the characters, who have their own Twitter account and website. There is contests, a making of, unusual perspectives on the film and, that is what I like best, interactive elements that provide secrets, details and background on each episode.

That should keep people entertained and curious for what’s to come. Like who is Jorge? And what’s at the South West Marine? Audi sure got my attention, but I am wondering how you feel: is this going to be “The Next Best Thing”?
