Viral Friday: Kobe & LeBron

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Nike: Kobe & LeBron. To promote Nike Basketball and the NBA playoffs Nike made several videos featuring puppet versions of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. The runner up spot is for Air New Zealand: Nothing To Hide. Air New Zealand has nothing to hide. That is why their cabin crew stripped off for a raunchy new advertisement where they carry out their duties wearing nothing more than body paint. Super Slo-mo Surfer completes this week’s top 3. The BBC is known for their stunning documentaries. For their new one, called “South Pacific”, they grabbed their $ 100,000 TyphoonHD4 camera and dropped it in the ocean.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Viral Friday is sponsored by ViralTracker – the leading global technology that tracks virals and online videos at millions of social sites and over 350 video sharing sites around the globe.

1. Nike: Kobe & LeBron

To promote Nike Basketball and the NBA playoffs Nike made several videos featuring puppet versions of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. “Three Rings” and “Unstoppable Game Tape” are two of them, but the most views go to “Chalk” (which you can see above). In under two weeks the Chalk video got over 1.4 million views.

2. Air New Zealand: Nothing To Hide

Air New Zealand has nothing to hide. The price of their flights includes everything from food to taxes. That is why the cabin crew have stripped off for the above commercial. More than 90 Air New Zealand staff members are featured in the cheeky campaign, with eight donning only body paint. Chief Executive Rob Fyfe also took part in the ad, and was crowned New Zealand’s sexiest businessman as a result. Although we all know how body painting works, here’s the making of video.

3. BBC: Super Slo-mo Surfer

The BBC is known for their stunning documentaries. For their new one, called “South Pacific“, they grabbed their $ 100,000 TyphoonHD4 camera, modified it and dropped it in the ocean. The camera was set to float just below the surface. By doing so they managed to make the above HD super slow motion video of big wave surfer Dylan Longbottom in a 12 foot monster barrel wave and capture the forces of nature. The video was shot off the coast of Pohnpei in the Caroline Islands, part of the Federated State of Micronesia.

4. T-Mobile: Hey Jude

T-Mobile loves flashmobs. And to be honest flashmobs go very well with they slogan “Life’s for Sharing”. In January Saatchi & Saatchi London arranged for a massive dance-flashmob at Liverpool Street Station in London, and on 30 April they arranged another one. 13,500 people gathered at Trafalgar Square for what they thought might be another dance-a-thon, but which turned out to be a collective karaoke rendition of “Hey Jude”. The video (“hey check this vid, I was there!”) spreads like fire and got over 730,000 views since May 2. (Source: AdFreak)

5. Intel: Who’s Your Rock Star?

Intel launched a new campaign, titled “Sponsors of Tomorrow”, in which they aim to show who their heroes, their rock stars, are. Surprisingly Intel is not a fan of Bruce Springsteen, but of Ajay Bhatt. Ajay co-invented the Universal Serial Bus, and that indeed makes him a hero. The commercial got over 640.000 views and 450 text comments on YouTube since May 6.
