Officials from the company confirmed that they are testing new methods of mobile game distribution, and nothing else on the subject.

Let’s explore more in this value chain.

Facebook currently earns an estimated $200 million every quarter. The revenue comes from payments and fees through virtual transactions in popular social games and Facebook Ads.

Will Facebook Become The Largest New Mobile Game Publisher?

It’s not much of a surprise that Facebook is making the decision to target this niche. In addition to the growing number of game installs, experts have expressed their social infrastructure is the perfect platform for sharing, promoting, and distributing games.

Apple super charged the world of mobile gaming with the launch of the iPhone back in 2007. With the iPhone, came the App Store.

The App Store became an entirely new domain where independent developers were able to to create games and sell them.

Following Apple, Google released what is now known as Google Play which is the Android’s counterpart to the App Store. These two currently dominate the market of mobile gaming which a $12 billion dollar industry.

Facebook is aware that the mobile gaming market can be a great potential for a company with 1 billion users already in its database. The challenge is competing with two existing app stores that have a stranglehold on the industry.

However, by targeting simple games with a social niche, Facebook has a chance at reaching into a small portion of the large $12 billion dollar pie.

Their only goal for now is to create an exciting, simple game that can overtake Angry Birds from its throne.

My Opinion
As new games become more complicated, the market for simple Internet based games become more and more popular.

The numbers clearly show users are interested in supporting simple online games played through popular channels so this is a sure fire win for a companies such as Facebook.
