As you can see they’re continuing this strategy and for a good reason. Samsung is more than throwing dirt at the iPhone, they’re showing how their product is beating their competitor on functional levels. <p>It’s not new that Nike claims running in their marketing efforts. What’s new is the <a title="Nike+ FuelBand" href="http://www.nike.com/fuelband/" target="_blank">Nike+ Fuelband</a> a new product that goes beyond running and tracks every activity. What’s quite interesting is that this video has an all natural spread, but Nike decided to buy views on this <a title="NIKE+ FUELBAND - COUNTS - YouTube" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT50eLLxPco" target="_blank">related funny video</a>. Their strategy probably was as following: instead of betting on the related funny video to go viral, their short introduction video is more likely to get picked up by <a title="The Nike+ FuelBand measures activity in NikeFuel, ready for your NikeLife -- Engadget" href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/19/nike-introduces-nikefuel-wristband/" target="_blank">tech blogs</a> providing natural views. And so far it got more than 770.000 views since 17th of January. The funny video will then show up in the related videos hitchhiking on the natural views. Quite clever if you think about it and maybe something to consider for your brand as well.</p>

Just like Doritos, <a title="General Motors" href="http://www.gm.com/" target="_blank">General Motors</a> asked people to make their own spot, with the winner having their ad played in front of an estimated 110 million viewers during The Big Game. In the winning entry by Zach Borst we see a graduate who thinks he is getting <a title="2012 Chevy Camaro | Performance Cars | Chevrolet" href="http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro-performance-cars/" target="_blank">a brand-new Chevrolet Camaro</a> convertible as a graduation present – except the grad is something else. The video got over 600.000 views in one week.</p>

The result is an emotional, authentic and a relatable video. The video has been very well received with over 200.000 views since the 19 of January. <p>First of all, we usually pick up the most recent virals, but this is an exception. The reason for this is to show that a video can go viral even without special effects and a huge budget. (Ok, have to admit it should not take so long…) The point is, make it look genuine and interesting. Some say it has to be horrible or horny, that’s of course also an option. I saw this video exactly two weeks ago on a Slovak community portal, it had around 300 views. And it skyrocketed to almost 3 million views until now as many shared it on social networks and blogs, even <a title="Nokia Ringtone Interrupts, Violist Plays Along [VIRAL VIDEO]" href="http://mashable.com/2012/01/22/nokia-ringtone-interrupts/" target="_blank">Mashable</a> mentioned it. How did this happen? Simple – it’s a great example how to face arrogance with a dignity and calmness, people still like it. A note below: <a title="Nokia Official Web site" href="http://www.nokia.com/" target="_blank">Nokia</a> was not involved in it, but curious when will they use it in a commercial.</p>

<p>Too many businesses are being duped by social media “experts” who promise brand building and more relationships. Words like relationships and trust make many people feel warm and fuzzy inside. Couple that with everybody talking about Facebook and Twitter and you have marketing budgets opening their wallets wide for advice from social media consultants. </p>
<p>Social media is essentially another form of networking and consultants help their clients build platforms from which they can communicate. Things like trust and reputation are impossible to measure, yet they are the very things that social media experts peddle. Although many like to place the blame on social media failures on the consultants who recommended them, whether or not you are buying social media snake oil depends as much on you as it does who you hire. Here are the top ways to buy social media snake oil…</p>
<p><strong>Using Social Media When You Don’t Need It</strong></p>
<p>What is your target market? Are any of them even using Facebook? And even if they are, are your marketing dollars better used elsewhere? For example, let’s say you’re a nursing home and your target market consists of senior citizens in your hometown. Seeing that only 11% of Facebook users are 55 an over, your marketing resources are better spent away from the social media world. Rather than spending money acquiring Facebook followers, spend time acquiring leads through hospitals. </p>
<p><strong>Believing that <i>Only</i> Social Media Will Lead You to Success</strong></p>
<p>Social media is like a mascot to your business. Sure, people will appreciate the friendly gesture and like you little better, but if you aren’t getting customers via traditional marketing methods or if your core business isn’t that good, no amount of social media will save you. </p>

Revealing 1,500 pairs of the futuristic and famous sneakers, first seen in the movie <strong>Back To The Future II</strong>. <span id="more-19950"></span></p>
<p>If there&#8217;s one thing real movie fans can&#8217;t get enough of, it&#8217;s &#8216;relics&#8217; from favourite movies. Nike pleased the hardcore fans of the cult classic &#8220;Back To The Future&#8221;.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Social CRM</strong> is going to be the backbone of all your community and consumer communication. The value of e-mail databases is eroding and providing our consumers with the means to communicate is increasingly becoming more important.</p>

<p>Some marketeers still believe that with a clever campaign, or an idea that will live a couple of years, they can actually build their brand, increase sales and stimulate loyalty. However times are changing; no more quick wins, but beneficial relationships for both parties: win &#8211; win.<span id="more-19897"></span></p>
<p>Throughout the customer journey our beloved consumers have different needs and need to be provided with the information they need. I once already wrote about it is not only about getting reach, to create awareness (<a href="http://www.viralblog.com/community-marketing/reach-isnt-awareness/">click here</a>) and how to get people through the social funnel.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Now lets take a deepdive into the marketing funnel and project this to your CRM system (please tell me you have a CRM strategy?).</p>
<p>How can the above McKinsey model help track and guide your average customer throughout the sales funnel? It will strengthen your marketing and will provide understanding the behaviour of your customer, it enables you to:</p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>Plan your marketing campaigns</li>
<li>Highlight prospect and customer areas in order to improve your conversion rate</li>
<li>Evolve and maximise your sales processes</li>
<li>Design your customer relationship management (CRM) system</li>
</ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Several models of this funnel have been published; they vary according to the nature of the product, service or consumer and this translates into the number of stages, the names of the stages and shape. They may all differ, but the fundamental stages stay the same.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Pre-Awareness;</strong></p>
<p>We know our audience, we know their needs, however in this phase they do not know us. Start mapping where they are and who their key-influencers are. Build relationships with their peers and save and collect all data in your CRM.</p>
<p><strong>Awareness;</strong></p>
<p>Align your communication message with your targets and KPI&#8217;s; then setup your great content (<a href="http://www.viralblog.com/online-marketing/content-is-a-key-business-asset/">content is your key asset</a>). Pull and Push your message towards the consumer:</p>
<p>Start communicating to your <strong>owned</strong> channels (e-mail database, websites, inpack promotions, social plaftorms ect), <strong>earn</strong> attention with digital PR and Buzz/ seed your content to those key-influencers we have mapped before and finally roll our your <strong>paid</strong> media plan.  Your target will be made aware of your brand and stimulated in the desire to purchase, comment or share.  Make sure you collect all information and data on your consumer in your CRM driven system, you will be able to tailor their needs better next time and build better relationships. You will coin on your relationship.</p>
<p><strong>Research and Familiarity/ Consideration</strong></p>
<p>Make sure we give our consumers the information they need to establish trustworthiness; they will scour the web and consult with friends. Reading reviews, learning features, asking the opinions of their peers. What happens if they cannot find the information they need? No trust, so you will not sell. Make sure you have your content on the web and facilitate people in their information need (reading, sharing, commenting, weighing). <em>A Best Practise <a href="http://www.slideshare.net/socialmedia8/tourism-tuscany-case-study-social-marketing-program">here</a>!</em> At this point people will be 80% of making a decision so they will map it, write a mental note or bookmark your site.</p>
<p><strong>Decision and Purchase</strong></p>
<p>The biggest influencers in this phase are peoples direct peers. How to make sure that their peers give a good recommendation? Make them a <a href="http://www.viralblog.com/community-marketing/you-are-a-brands-new-celebrity/">celebrity</a>! They will take the plunge to buy your product and service. Make sure you have optimised your sales steps; reduce steps, keep quiet and hold still. Let your consumer be!</p>
<p><strong>Brand and Product Advocate (or Haters)</strong></p>
<p>Congratulations!! You have just made a sale and your consumer has just bought that product or service he or she needed. Why not congratulate them? Make sure they can share their purchase directly and instantaneously though social channels (twitter, facebook ect.). Give them an incentive to sign-up for news, offers or fun information. It is imperative that you make this step as agreeable as possible, because if you piss them off; they will shout out! Remember what peers do (they&#8217;ve just turned into a peer)?</p>
<p><strong>Repurchase Intention</strong></p>
<p>Retaining clients is one of the most difficult things there is, however it is a well established fact we all know that existing customers are significantly easier to convert into another sale. They will at some point have to buy a replacement, an extra one or they will want to upgrade. So stay connected with them and help them. You do not want to spend all you marketing budget on re-building relationships time after time?</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Preconceptions and Experience</strong></p>
<p>Have you provided what you have promised them? Ask them what they thought could be improved and ask them what they thought was great. Perhaps you can offer them an alternative or upgrade. Through your CRM you can give them what they need.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Familiarise </strong></p>
<p>Although the customer probably has a good idea about your brand, they will want to familiarise themselves with your current product range, and with your competition. Should they upgrade to the next item in the product range, stick with the most recent version or swap for competitor? Now customers continue through the funnel as before, with final considerations, a decision, and eventually a second purchase.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Loyalty and Advocacy</strong></p>
<p>Make sure we have our consumers repurchase, upgrade or endorse our product or service. How?  Set-up a loyalty program.  Some benefits are:</p>
<p>- Shift &#8211; Acquire new customers</p>
<p>- Lift &#8211; Increase the spending of existing customers</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A little over a week ago <strong>Nike</strong> launched their new campaign titled <strong>The Chosen</strong>. Instead of launching their new campaign on TV, Nike choose to launch it through social media. The premiere of The Chosen was shown on Facebook, which included its 90 second TV spot.  &#8216;<em>The Chosen&#8217;</em> is the very first ‘Just Do It’  campaign in the fast growing Nike <a href="http://www.actionsports.nikemedia.com/" target="_blank">action sports </a>category, which includes snowboarding, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/nike?ref=ts#!/Nike6Surf" target="_blank">surfing</a> and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/search.php?q=nike%20bmx&amp;type=all&amp;init=srp#!/Nike6BMX" target="_blank">BMX</a>.</p>

<p>The new ‘Just Do It’-campaign consists of a spectaculair new video with skateboard, surf and BMX legends like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swY0VbwsDig" target="_blank">Paul Rodriguez</a>, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-arrO5RmQig" target="_blank">Julian Wilson</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWCe7y3IOjc" target="_blank">Danny Kass</a>. As well as featuring the TV ad premiere on Facebook, the campaign was launched with a video contest calling for user generated content across each of the sports. The winner, the chosen one, gets the chance to live like a Nike Pro athleet for a year.</p>

<p>The theme of the campaign continues with its video contest, which starts with asking for submissions of videos featuring people’s ‘crews’. The crews are challenged to create as much buzz around their entries, <strong>user generated content</strong>, as possible, using a variety of social media tools. The finalists then face a vote by professionals within Nike and their athletes to determine the winner, who will then win ‘The Chosen’ lifestyle.</p>
<p>This is also a well-considered campaign by Nike as each sport Page has been set up to feature the content, showing the coordinated approach. By using crews to create buzz and potential vial spread, Nike immediately identifies its <strong>key influencers</strong>, which can also be used for future campaigns.</p>
<p>What’s interesting about this campaign is the prominence that social media was given, with the ad spot breaking on Facebook nearly 3 days before it premiered on TV, during the NBA finals. <strong>TV is falling further down the marketing chain</strong> for many brands and agencies. Indeed, social media ad spend is expected to quadruple by 2015, contrasting with an expected 2.5% growth for TV ad spend in 2011.</p>

But this new video from <a href="http://www.adidas.com">Adidas</a> shows famous football player <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lionel_Messi">Lionel Messi</a> messing with a kind of a different stunt – juggling the brand new adizero f50. Pretty impressive, isn’t it? This sneak preview of a new Adidas football campaign has already 66K views since the 1st of February. And hopefully this video won’t inspire someone to create an alike ad for ice skating shoes…but, you never know.</p>

Cahill who’s popularity rose to unbelievable heights is facing now some heavy comments as a result of the not so refreshing content he’s delivering. Critics blame him of being a puppet for top artists who want to lift their own airtime. The video is up since January 24th, where it created 7.2 million views, which still is sky high(!), but from the 42K votes, 1 out of 3 disliked it this time. The songs are great but Cahill’s performance&#8230; You decide.</p>

These Japanese children are so happy with their SpongeBob toys they scream so crazy and loud you think at least they won unlimited free Happy Meals for the rest of their lives. Give children a straw or a cup with a SpongeBob sound and they are as happy as they can ever become. Within 8 days this ad from McDonald’s has been viewed 2,4 million times.</p>

<p>Yesterday our fellow ViralBlog blogger Daan Jansonius <a href="http://www.viralblog.com/social-media/old-spice-guy-is-back/" target="_blank">wrote</a> about the new Old Spice video. The Old Spice campaign was one of the best viral hits on YouTube in 2010. In the coming year our Old Spice guy <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaiah_Mustafa" target="_blank">Isaiah Mustafa</a> might have the most recognizable face on YouTube. Because the Old Spice guy is back, we smell a lot of fun, masculine content in 2011 from the Old Spice <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/OldSpice" target="_blank">YouTube channel</a>. In 8 days the video already got 412K views!</p>

The trailer was directed by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001675/" target="_blank">Robert Rodriquez</a> and that’s a great choice since he is responsible for <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKFLrTYKIXk" target="_blank">Sin City</a>. The trailer is online since 23 of January and got 169K views and 400 likes since then.</p>
