Amazon Prime Air: From Robot City To Drone Delivery

Amazon goes from robot city to drone delivery. Science fiction or reality? Jeff Bezos is again adding invention to the most predictable company in the world.

Will Amazon one day have a fleet of Prime Air vehicles in the sky? Yes it’s just a matter of time.

Are you really surprised?

Amazon Prime Air: Drone Delivery is Ready

From a technology point of view, Amazon is ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place.

Regulations you might think? Yes, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules will have to be in place as early as sometime in 2015.

The goal of this new delivery system is to get packages into customers’ hands in 30 minutes or less using unmanned aerial vehicles.

Check out this footage from a recent test flight:

The Best Jeff Bezos Quote ever?

I very much respect Jeff Bezos for his DNA, strategic long term vision and his guts. He is always embracing disruptive innovations and showing leadership.

But inventive leaders are often critized. So one of the most relevant and best quotes comes from Jeff Bezos himself:

I feel very much connected to this quote. That’s why I tend to use it in most of my pro keynote speeches.

My Opinion

Yes I have seen the Dominos ‘Pizza Drone’ delivery video. Cool stuff. But Amazon Prime Air is a whole different ballgame. Why?

Because Jeff Bezos already heavily invested in robot city. So you can be sure that he will make drone delivery happen on large commercial scale. Not for a one off PR stunt like Dominos.

It takes an architect to vision and build cathedrals, everything else is just bricks in a wall. That comes to my mind when I think about Amazon and Jeff Bezos.

He has built the most CRM driven and most predictable company on this planet. If Amazon wanted, it could wipe-out Netflix in just a few years.

And I am convinced that Amazon will demolish more companies and will disrupt more industries.

I would probably consider no more CMO roles in my life. However, for Amazon I would pack my bags and do it.

    Haha this is freaking awesome!

  • How did you like Bezos’ quote?

Cool, there will be a drone coming instead of Santa :)

Interesting and exciting idea, let’s see how it goes – with all the regulations and taking potential malfunctions/accidents into account it might be tricky to get it up and running very soon. Doubt it will be by 2015.

I heard UPS is also testing with drones
