Philips choose to use the hashtag #philips_vs, because if they&#039;d chosen @philips_vs, it wouldn&#039;t appear on the timeline of friends that don&#039;t follow @philips_vs. I can&#039;t see on the site where you found the fact that Philips encouraged the users to use @philips_vs in their Tweets.
