T-Shirt Wars
Have you ever heard of Rhet&Link? Neither had I. And I suspect the same holds true for 2.5 million other people….until they saw this video. Now they have seen it they are unlikely to forget about them any time soon!
Rhet&Link are two lifelong friends who form a comedy duo from North Carolina in the US. They are not just a comedy duo thought, they are a comedy duo that get social media.
If the video above is not prove enough, than I suggest you go have a look at their website. A Youtube channel with more than 250,000 subscribers and just over 41 million (!!) views is a pretty good indication they get this stuff too.
They have realised that making their content available for free and using the power of social media they can build a brand for themselves which would not have been possible in the traditional media world. They have created great content, managed to break free from the clutter and are now reaping the rewards from their clever approach.
Just like OK Go did before them – who, by the way, have decided they no longer need a record label. In fact, the record label was actually holding them back by limiting distribution of their music videos through social media.
Smart move….

Rhett & Link are signed w/ a YouTube record company called DFTBA records. DFTBA artists get about 60% of the royalties. They realized 1 album so far. You should check out Rhett & Link’s bathroom song video.
Another YouTuber you need to check out is MysteryGuitarMan. His music videos are brilliant and have gone viral prior. He directed Rhett & Link’s T-Shirt War video
Thanks for the extra info mate!
just another case that there’s space for comedy in social media
i mean.. good comedy
Man, that must have taken forever. And you have to wonder how one starts writing a script for something like this.
pretty cool but I can’t help feeling it’s a kind of rehash of Justice’s D.A.N.C.E video (http://bit.ly/xRF). To give Rhett & Link and their mysteryguitarman credit, Justice quite obviously didn’t use stop-motion with a billion shirt changes, but because two are so similar it still feels slightly stale as a concept for me unfortunately!
