Interactive marketing agency AKQA has put an inventive twist on the well-known festive tune ‘Jingle Bells’ with the aid of 49 microwaves. The runner up spot is for Whopper Virgins. Burger King traveled over 20,000 miles to remote areas to find people who have never heard of the Whopper and perform the world’s purest taste test. Seagate: Stack The Memory completes this week’s top 3. Sniper Twins were seeking a sponsor for their new single and a geeky 5-minute music video. Seagate showed interest and funded the project. The sponsorship paid off!

1. Happy Christmas from AKQA
AKQA, an interactive marketing agency with offices in San Francisco, New York, Washington D.C., Londen, Sjanghai and Amsterdam, has put an inventive twist this holiday season on the well-known festive tune ‘Jingle Bells’ with the aid of 49 microwaves. Directed by Jonty Toosey and produced by Bikini and AKQA.Film, the piece took almost a week of planning and a whole day to capture. 2. Whopper Virgins
Burger King and Crispin Porter + Bogusky have commissioned Stacy Peralta, director of Made in America, to document Whopper Virgins, people who taste Burger King Whoppers for the very first time. The documentary shows people without American bias taste testing the Whopper alongside the McDonald’s Big Mac. Burger King traveled in 13 planes, 2 dog sleds and 1 helicopter over 20,000 miles to a remote hill village in north Thailand and a rural farming community in Romania and icy tundra of Greenland to find people who have never heard of the Whopper and perform the world’s purest taste test. 3. Seagate: Stack The Memory
Creative duo Sniper Twins are both musicians and video producers who work with other indie artists. To fund their endeavors they are not afraid to court corporate tie-ins. To seek a sponsor for their latest single ‘Computerfriends [Stack the Memory]‘ the duo placed the following text on their site “Sniper Twins perfecting new single and seeking wireless carrier to partner with…”.
Seagate, a well-known high tech manufacturer of computer hard disks, showed interest and decided to sponsor their new single and a geeky 5-minute music video. The sponsorship paid off! In one month’s time the music video is viewed 500,000 times and got featured on TechCrunch, CN Beta, Geeks Are Sexy en Gizmodo.
4. Stickman Trapped In Phone
To promote LG’s new stylish LG KP500 Cookie, featuring a 3.2 megapixel camera, 3″ Full touch screen and handwriting recognition, LG Electronics has released two viral videos, which are targeted at Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil and the United Kingdom. In the video “Stickman Trapped In Phone” the animation figure Stickman is in fierce battle with its creator and undertakes numerous attempts to escape from the LG Cookie KP500. The video is almost viewed over 200,000 times on YouTube and MetaCafe. Also see the promo video, in which a beautiful girl demonstrates the features of the LG touchscreen phone with musical accompaniment of Mozart’s Turkish March.
5. JibJab 2008 Year In Review
JibJab, created by the Spiridellis brothers in 1999, is famous for their comic political internet videos. Some of their classics are Bush/Kerry: This Land, Good to be in DC and Second Term. The internet video producer and videosharing site from Santa Monica now released another hilarious video in which the year 2008 is reviewed. The animation video, titled “2008 Year in Review”, would not be complete without Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, Eliot Spitzer, Bill Gates, John McCain and the Bailout. Therefore JibJab put all these in one Year Review.
