Viral Friday: Jamie Lynn Speaks Out

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 10 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This year’s last Viral Friday #1 position goes to Goodneighborstuff.com with Jamie Lynn Speaks Out. Jamie Lynn, Britney Spears’ 16 year old sister, and her 19 year old boyfriend Casey Aldridge got pregnant. The Los Angeles based comedy group Good Neighbor made a hilarious sketch about her pregnancy.

The runner up spot is for a Katalyst Films with Ashton Kutcher Christmas Card. In this satirical Christmas video we see how Demi Moore, dressed as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, has an inappropriate relation with Santa, played by her husband Ashton Kutcher, in the copy room. The video parodies the striking scriptwriters in Hollywood, who are out on strike for eight weeks already. Kina Grannis’ Gotta Digg completes this week’s top 3. After last year’s highly successful Crash The Superbowl Doritos contest, the tortilla chips brand once again opened a contest. This time 10 bands battle for a contract at Interscope Records and 60 seconds airtime during the Superbowl.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 10? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

1. Jamie Lynn Speaks Out

Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney’s 16 year old sister, and her 19 year old boyfriend Casey Aldridge got pregnant. The Zoey 101 actress announced the pregnancy last weekend in an exclusive interview with OK! Magazine. Britney, who is a mother of two, heard the news through the media. Jamie Lynn’s advisers think it would be better for her career if she had no contact with her 10 year older sister.

Beck Bennett, David McCary, Kyle Mooney and Nick Rutherford of the comedy group Good Neighbor from Los Angeles made a hilarious sketch about Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy. The quartet managed to capture the future mom on GNZ (a parody on TMZ.com) camera while she was shopping in Hollywood. The video got over 1 million views in less than five days time. 2. Ashton Kutcher Christmas Card

In this satirical Christmas video we see Demi Moore, dressed as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, having an inappropriate relation with Santa, played by her husband Ashton Kutcher, in the copy room. The video parodies the striking scriptwriters in Hollywood, who are out on strike for eight weeks already.

The short film starts with elves being out on strike (“Go Elf Yo’self” on their banners), demanding better working conditions. Actress Demi Moore, with antlers and flashing red nose, walks in during the negotiations to announce the reindeers are quitting as well. Only moments later we see how Santa and Rudolph proceed the negotiations in the copy room. The couple is caught in the act by a furious Mrs. Claus. The video is made by Kutchers production company Katalyst Films. (Source: Best Week Ever)

3. Gotta Digg

After last year’s highly successful Crash The Superbowl Doritos contest the tortilla chips brand once again launched a contest. This time 10 bands compete for a contract with Interscope Records and 60 deconds of airtime during the Superbowl! Singer and songwriter Kina Grannis, one of the finalists, recorded a very catchy tune about the popular social news site Digg, titled “Gotta Digg”. If Kina gets enough votes she will win the contest. And with the attention of Valleywag, Gizmodo, Neatorama and, obviously, Digg chances are good. The selection of the ten finalists was made with the help of the following members of the jury: Will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas), Jack Joseph Puig (Ocean Way Studios) and Ryan O’Donnell (Geffen Records). Voting is possible till the 31st of December 2007 on www.crashthesuperbowl.com.

4. Boeing 737 Emergency Landing

Amsterdam based consultancy and advertising agency Young Works, specialized in youth communications, made this viral campaign for X-travel. The campaign aims for people between 16 and 26 years of age. The viral video, used to promote the action site, got about 50.000 YouTube views in just one week.

In the viral (amateur) video we see a Boeing 737 forced to land in the sea. The emergency exits open and several youngsters, dressed in swimming gear and ready to party, jump out of the airplane. At the end of the video the call to action appears: “Start your own airline company. Fill your airplane with six friends, choose your destination and win.” (Source: Young Marketing)

5. Obama Girl: “Bush, You’re So Lame”

After I Got a Crush…On Obama, Obama Girl vs Giuliani Girl and I Like a Boy the makers of Obama Girl now aim at the anti Bush sentiment with their new video “You’re So Lame”. Besides the sexy Amber Lee Ettinger, as Obama Girl, we see several fragments of a not too clever George W. Bush (like “I know that human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully”). With this music video the fact that Bush will be president for just one more year is celebrated. More Barely Political satiric video’s will follow the coming months. Maybe even with Ron Paul Girl? 6. Chris Bryant Just Does It

Chris Bryant from Akron, Ohio, has his own style of walking the streets. Instead of waiting for cars to pass he just jumps over them! The people in the street were not the only ones to notice Chris’ insane jumping abilities. After a TV interview Nike asked him to star in a new shoes commercial, and so it happened.

7. Go Jesus, It’s Your Birthday

In the official reading of Jesus’ birth the following persons are present in the stable: Mary, the Three Wise Men, angels and shepherds. Dave Jones of Hill & Knowlton and PR Works made a contemporary version of this event, starring the above persons, in a commercial for Virgin Mobile Canada. Go Jesus, It’s Your Birthday.

8. Check Yourself Out

American non-profit organization “Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation” promotes self examination for testicular cancer. Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer for man between the age of 15 and 40. Struck Creative created five viral video’s and the action site Carpe Testes. The catchy tagline in the video: Be a man. Self exam. (Source: Buzzing Bees)

9. Burn Energy Drink

Italian energy drink brand “Burn” made the above commercial in which we see what drinking a can of Burn can do. It might be a good idea for Burn to start a collaboration with a condom manufacturer… (Source: AdFreak)

10. Indecent Proposal

Israel based viral marketing agency KetaKeta made a viral video and a video contest for American jeweler James Allen. In the viral video we see how a young man asks his sweetheart to marry him by urinating “Will you marry me?” in the snow. His girlfriend does not appreciate his creativity… At the end of the video the viewer gets asked if he has a better idea to ask someone to marry him/her and to sent in the idea. By doing so you can win a ring worth $3.000. Would an iPhone proposal be creative enough?
