Viral Friday: One Year In 40 Seconds

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to One Year In 40 Seconds. In 2005 Eirik Solheim did an experiment shooting images out of his window for one year. It turned out pretty cool so in the end of 2007 he decided to do the same for the year 2008. The runner up spot is for Heineken with Walk In Fridge. The walk in fridge is Heineken’s brilliant gift to man in this Dutch commercial which can be understood perfectly even if you don’t speak Dutch. Robbie Madison’s Amazing Record Jump completes this week’s top 3. Australian freestyle motocross rider Robbie Madison fulfilled his lifelong dream and ambition last night when he successfully completed a 300ft almost vertical jump to land on top of the Arc De Triomphe.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

1. One Year In 40 Seconds

In 2005 Eirik Solheim did an experiment shooting images out of his window for one year. It turned out pretty cool and in the end of 2007 he decided to do the same. But in much better quality. So he started shooting images with his Canon 400D. From the same spot each time, but not through the window. Instead he found a spot outside that gave more or less the same framing each time he placed his camera. The video can be seen in HD on Vimeo and there’s a 2 minute version as well. The video got 2.5 million views on YouTube, Break and Vimeo since Christmas.

2. Heineken: Walk In Fridge

Heineken made this brilliant commercial for their Dutch market. Obviously the images in the ad are universal and now finally man get their equivalent of the walk-in closet the lady keep craving for. The ad got over 1.5 million views in one week’s time on YouTube, MetaCafe, Break and GeenStijl.

3. Robbie Madison’s Amazing Record Jump

Australian freestyle motocross rider Robbie Madison fulfilled his lifelong dream and ambition last night when he successfully completed a 300ft almost vertical jump to land on top of the Arc De Triomphe on New Years Eve. Not content with this amazing feat he then decides to jump off the top and back down a ramp to ground level. Madison dedicated the jump to his hero Evel Knievel who recently died aged 69. The event, which took place in Las Vegas on a replica of the real Arc, was broadcast live on ESPN.

4. A Message From John Lennon (OLPC)

5. MacBook Wheel

Real Apple fans now have a new shiny laptop; the MacBook Wheel. The MacBook Wheel replaces the traditional keyboard with a large, touch-sensitive scroll wheel. As the Apple representative demonstrates, typing “…couldn’t be simpler.” Just use the wheel to scroll from letter to letter via an on-screen keyboard, pressing the center button to make a selection. You’ve got to admire the effort that the folks at The Onion put into this, including the posters and set at the Apple “booth”, the employee’s uniform and the sweet video of the Wheel in action.
