Viral Friday: Samsung SSD Awesomeness
Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Samsung SSD Awesomeness. Samsung technicians linked 24 of their 256GB SSD drives together in a RAID with the hopes of making the fast SSD drives even faster. And they did. The runner up spot is for Vodafone with Blackberry Drives Formula One Race Car. Initially some guys programmed a BlackBerry Storm to control a little toy race car and ended up with Lewis Hamilton controlling his McLaren F1 car with it. Andy Richter Car Ad completes this week’s top 3. Andy Richter, host of The Midnight Show, thought that car commercials do not reflect real life accurately, so he made one that does…
Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!
1. Samsung SSD Awesomeness
The above is a very nice promotion video for Samsung SSD (Solid State Drive) drives. The following might be a bit technical, but worth a read cause it’s very impressive! Some technicians at Samsung linked 24 of their 256GB drives together in a RAID with the hopes of making the fast SSD drives even faster. The system actually reaches transfer speeds of 2GBps. The test rig is capable of loading all Microsoft Office applications in half a second, ripping a full 700MB DVD in 0.8 seconds, open 53 programs from the test computer’s start menu in 18 seconds and do a complete system defrag in 3 seconds. The video of this amazing test gets some great figures as well; it got over 1 million views since it was uploaded March 2nd.

2. Blackberry Drives Formula One Race Car
Vodafone, the primary sponsor of the McLaren Mercedes F1 team, made the above video featuring Lewis Hamilton to promote the BlackBerry Storm. The video wants us to believe that some guys programmed a BlackBerry Storm to control a little toy race car using its accelerometers. They posted the video on YouTube, got a reaction from McLaren and ended up using the device to control a real race car. The video is a hughe success with over 410.000 views in just over one week.

3. Andy Richter Car Ad
Andy Richter, host of The Midnight Show, and James Adomian star in the above sketch from The Midnight Show. The sketch obviously makes fun of commercials for cars like the Toyota Prius, Hyundai Elantra and Nissan Sentra. It seems like they thought that car commercials do not reflect real life accurately, so they made one that does… The video got over 140.000 views since it was uploaded to YouTube only three days ago.

4. World Builder
The above short film, called “World Builder”, was created by filmmaker Bruce Branit, the co-creator of “405“. World Builder was shot in a single day followed by about 2 years of post production. The nine minute film, released in 2007, was awarded Best Narrative Short Film at 2007 KC Filmmakers Jubilee, but was turned down by other film festivals. The video was uploaded to Vimeo and YouTube 16 days ago and has been viewed over 1 million times, got over 12.000 likes and favourites and received over 2.500 comments.

5. Vanilla Ice Says Sorry
Rob Van Winkle (aka Vanilla Ice) apologized for his career, and especially for the song “Ice Ice Baby“, as part of a marketing campaign for Virgin Mobile Australia’s “Right Music Wrongs“. Right Music Wrongs is a website that “supports, encourages, displays and distributes great music to greatful ears through every means”. The campaign was created by Droga5 Sydney.
