This week’s Viral Friday #1 position goes to Adbakery with Sure Lock – A True Poo Story. Do you have a great ad or marketing idea? Then put it on ‘idea shop’ Adbakery.com. Last September Adrian Parks posted his video “Sure Lock: A True Poo Story”. And even in his wildest dreams he couldn’t guess the video would gain over 4.4 million views on YouTube and Break. The runner up spot is for Is Europe A Country?. In this clip, taken from American television quiz ‘Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?’, we see American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler who has to answer the extremely difficult question “Budapest is the capital of what European country?”. The singer doesn’t have the answer to the question and asks 5th grader Nathan to help her. Human Super Soaker completes this week’s top 3. The video of an African male spewing 1.5 liters of water in an empty bottle causes several discussions on the internet. Is it real or is it a fake?

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 10? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

1. Sure Lock – A True Poo Story

Do you have a great ad or marketing idea? Then put it on ‘idea shop’ Adbakery.com. This is exactly what Adrian Parks did last September. He posted the video ‘Sure Lock: A True Poo Story’ on Adbakery.com. In the video the leading parts are being played by Renée Percy and David Ivkovic. The video is a huge success with 3.2 million views on YouTube and 1.2 million views on Break!

2. Is Europe A Country?

In the American television quiz ‘Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?‘ on FOX American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler gets a geography question: “Budapest is the capital of what European country?”. The singer does not have the answer to the question and asks 5th grader Nathan to help her. The game show, in which an adult has to answer ten questions extracted from 5th grade tests, can be seen in several other countries like Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Australia, the Philippines, and Thailand. The video is a huge success (with over 4 million views) on the internet and is compared with Miss Teen USA 2007.

3. Human Super Soaker

This video of an African male spewing 1.5 liters of water in an empty bottle causes several discussions on the internet. Is it real or is it a fake? The man now goes by the nicknames of ‘Human Super Soaker’ and ‘Winston the Waterfountain’. The video can be found on several video sharing sites and weblogs, including Break, Metacafe, Dailymotion and YouTube, and on social news site Digg people voted for the video in large numbers.

4. There Really Are No Accidents

WSIB, a Canadian workers compensation board, last year launched the campaign There Really Are No Accidents on Prevent-it.ca. To remind people of the safety measures at work, the WSIB launched five new, shocking videos: The Chef, Shop Girl, Factory, Family Guy and Funeral. (Source: National Review Online)

5. Cooties

Improv Theater The Pit from New York made this funny spoof to Public Service Announcements. In the clip kids warn for a new, contagious (non-existing) virus, called Cooties. In just three weeks time the clip was viewed over 500.000 times on YouTube.

6. Meet The Trollsen Twins

American animal rights organization PETA started a campaign against Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen because of their fur wearing behavior. The organization is furious about the twins ignoring their pleas to stop wearing and promoting fur.

PETAs youth department, PETA 2, now calls the twins ‘The Trollsen Twins’ (Hairy Kate and Trashley) and launched a web site to make fun of the sisters. On the web site you can dress animated versions of the twins in ‘fatal fashion’ and watch a ‘lost episode’ of Full House, titled Full House of Horrors. (Source: TMZ.com)

7. Ken Touched This

Last year language school Berlitz scored a massive viral hit with the hilarious video What are you zinking about?. The video, made by BTS United Oslo, originally linked to a web site (Berlitz Norway) where you could download the video and sent it to your friends. Due to the enormous interest for the viral video, Berlitz was forced to close the site.

With two new videos, Ken Touched This and Tide, Berlitz once again plays the ‘miscommunication’ card. (Source: Times Online)

8. Whopper Freakout

About 50 years ago Burger King founders James McLamore and David Edgerton created their first Whopper. To celebrate the 50th anniversary the fast food restaurant chain, together with Crispin Porter + Bogusky, came up with a brilliant marketing stunt: ‘Whopper Freakout’. With a hidden camera they caught the customers reactions, who just got told BK stopped serving the Whopper sandwich, on tape. In the 7 minutes lasting video we see how disappointed (“Is this a joke?”), angry (“Oh my God!”) and sad Americans get when thinking of a life without the Whopper. At the end of 2006, Burger King reported that there are more than 11,220 outlets in 61 countries. (Source: PSFK, Wikipedia)

9. AOL News – Where Are They Now?!

This year Chris Crocker, Miss Teen USA 2007 and Don’t Tase Me Bro reached the internet celebrity status. The ’15 minutes of fame’ for Chris Chrocker, Lauren Caitlin Upton and Andrew Meyer are now over, but as every end of year the well known lists are appearing. AOL News made its list in video format and created a clip with look-a-likes of Chris, Lauren and Andrew who all meet in a little shop.

10. Sunshine

Greenpeace once again makes it very clear: Until energy is for free, use energy efficient light bulbs. The viral that comes with this message was designed to encourage young men to be more energy conscious and voiced by Martin Freeman (The Office, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy).
