Viral Friday: Susan Boyle – Memory
Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes, once more, to Susan Boyle. Susan got on stage again on the Britain’s Got Talent show with a version of the song “Memory” from the musical “Cats”. The runner up spot is for The Worst Job Ever. The credit crunch causes people to loose their jobs, and those who still have theirs are mostly very happy. Not in Brazil though… Sebastian’s Voodoo completes this week’s top 3. This short film, made by Joaquin Baldwin – an Annie Award nominee director and animator from Paraguay, living in Los Angeles, won first price in the Online Short Film Competition, presented by the National Film Board of Canada.

1. Britain’s Got Talent: Susan Boyle – Memory
Susan made her second appearance on the Britain’s Got Talent show with a version of the song “Memory” from the musical “Cats”. This time, the songstress’ new makeover was also a knockout. Though she promised she’d never change too much, on Sunday Boyle wore a sparkly purple dress, professional-looking makeup and showed off well-groomed eyebrows. Members of the public voting in a telephone poll picked her as the best of eight performers who appeared Sunday, meaning she will sing again in the contest’s final next Saturday. Susan’s performance got, with the help of over 100 duplicate videos, over 15 million views in under a week!

2. The Worst Job Ever
The credit crunch causes people to loose their jobs, and those who still have theirs are mostly very happy. Not in Brazil though. The massage therapist in this commercial doesn’t like his job at all: no labor associations, no free Saturday’s and Sunday’s and no schedules or regulations. He really has the worst job ever… The video, that wants us to visit “www.dreamjob.com.br“, which redirects to empregocerto.uol.com.br – a Brazilian job portal, got over 1.7 million views since May 14.
3. Sebastian’s Voodoo
This short film, made by Joaquin Baldwin – an Annie Award nominee director and animator from Paraguay, living in Los Angeles, won first price in the Online Short Film Competition, presented by the National Film Board of Canada, in association with the Cannes Film Festival. The video tells about a voodoo doll that must find the courage to save his friends from being pinned to death. The short film already appeared on YouTube and Vimeo in July 2008, scoring over 600,000 views. Last week the National Film Board of Canada uploaded the movie in their YouTube channel causing the film to get another (almost) 900,000 viewers.

The 75-second spot, released May 7, with 20+ duplicates has been viewed over 500,000 times on YouTube in two weeks, commented on hundreds of times by users on Twitter, videoportals and blogs throughout the world and rated thousands of times – with the maximum number of points. Media budget for the campaign: zero Euros. See making off photos here and read the full story in this ViralBlog post.
