Viral Friday: Wassup 2008

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to 60frames’s Wassup 2008. Eight years after the boys said “Whassup” to each other for the first time they are back on video again, but this time they aren’t peddling beer. The runner up spot is for Obama vs McCain Dance Off!. The two candidates fight their battle on the dance floor, because “The is only one place where the election should be decided … it’s on!”. Google’s 5 More Friends: Don’t Vote! completes this week’s top 3. Four weeks ago the Viral Friday #1 position was for the “5 Friends” campaign in which 30 celebrities told us how important it is to vote. Apparently the first clip did not have enough effect, so now there’s a second featuring even more celebs.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

1. Wassup 2008

Its been eight years since the boys said “Whassup” to each other in the DDB Chicago Bud Light commercial series (original commercial here). The characters that starred in the hit Budweiser ad campaign are back on video again, but this time they aren’t peddling beer. Instead, the characters are supporting Barack Obama. In this new video, one of the characters -an American soldier- calls his buddies from Iraq, and the group exchange their familiar “Whassup” greeting. But they quickly descend into complaining about their dire personal problems. (Source: The Inspiration Room, Wall Street Journal)

2. Obama vs McCain Dance Off!

The final battle between Obama and McCain took off! The two candidates fight their battle on the dance floor, because “The is only one place where the election should be decided … it’s on!”. The video, obviously not featuring Obama and McCain but actors, was directed by David Morgasen and Yaroslav Kemnits (Director of Special Effects), written by David Morgasen and produced by Dmitry Lesnevsky (Exec. Producer), David Morgasen (Exec. Producer) and Elena Muravina. (Source: MiniMovie)

3. 5 More Friends: Don’t Vote!

Four weeks ago the Viral Friday #1 position was for the “5 Friends” campaign in which 30 celebrities first told us, and especially American citizens, to vote. Apparently the first clip did not have enough effect, so now there’s a second featuring even more celebs. Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Snoop Dogg, Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, Ben Stiller, Will Smith, Steven Spielberg, Justin Timberlake, along with Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat, Zach Braff, Colin Farrell, Neil Patrick Harris, Scarlett Johansson, Shia LeBeouf, Tobey Maguire, Ryan Reynolds, and Jason Segal, are featured in this second of a series of public service announcements to encourage American youth to vote in partnership with Google, YouTube, Declare Yourself, and MySpace.

4. AC/DC ASCII Music Video In Excel

AC/DC may have made a little mistake by not selling their new album via Apple’s iTunes Store, they made up for it with this spreadsheet video in Microsoft’s Excel. The video is the fine work of Phil Clandillon and Steve Milbourne, who work at a division of Sony/BMG in London. They call this “the world’s first music video in Excel format.” Download the spreadsheet at the AC/DC rocks web site, or watch in on YouTube.

5. Paris For President

Paris Hilton has now made a music video to accompany her fake presidential campaign. “Paris for President” premiered on swaghousemedia.com this week. The music video was shot in Los Angles and features behind the scenes footage and photos. The 24-year-old heiress appeared in an online video spoof of the campaign posted on Funny or Die back in August. The video was posted after Republican presidential candidate John McCain launched an ad comparing Democratic rival Barack Obama to Hilton and Britney Spears, suggesting Obama was no more than a celebrity candidate who was not ready to lead the nation.
