After winning the Viral of the year title at ViralBlog in 2011 with “The Force”,  Volkswagen just launched a new video: “The Bark Side”. It’s a teaser to a big game party on January 27th. “You should never change a winning team”, and that’s exactly what Volkswagen is doing at the moment. Elaborating on their viral success from 2011 with the Star Wars theme and it seems to be working again. Since it’s upload on January 18th the viral is watched almost 2,5million times. We don’t know exactly what the game is about, but has something to do with your name written in the stars.
Will you be shining like a star? Or choosing the Bark Side?

2. Old Spice – Blown Mind

Muscular half naked guys work really well for Old Spice. Good news for the ladies because they brought Terry Crew  back in the game. The ad featuring the former NFL player is  mind blowing. Literally. Ad agency Wieden+Kennedy created this “Smell is Power” campaign, and it definitely has the viral factor.  The video has been online since the 11th of January and hit over 2.1 million views. Like what you see? Check out some older ads of Old Spice at their YouTube channel.

3. Hello

It’s a dream of every movie maker that people around the world will admire his work. The Dutchman Matthijs Vlot succeeded by a re-make of the song “Hello” from Lionel Richie by combining various movie scenes with many famous actors into a one, well-looking piece.  The video is on-line for about 6 days, got over 2,5 million views and is a great example that amazing things can be done with thing that are already here. And the effort can eventually turn into a viral video. Best advice? Just use your imagination and be creative!

4. The Joy of Books

Did you ever think what books do during the night? They are not dead, they simply prefer to dance. The fantastical short film is set in Toronto bookshop Type, where the books come alive after a shopkeeper leaves for the night. Resembles Toy Story a bit, but looks really great and magic. And also hit the spot – kind of a simple idea, maybe meant for a small or local promotion – went viral with more than 2,2 million views in a week and a few days. Because there are still people who think there’s nothing as great a good book.

5. The Day The LOLcats Died

Was a pretty busy week with SOPA and PIPA acts, many websites including Wikipedia and Google showed support by either a temporary blackout or changing their home pages. Luckily for everyone, the senators got some sense  and did not pass any of the ridiculous bills. There have been many protest songs, comics, etc. and this one got almost 700,000 views within 4 days. Thanks for the free Internet to all who showed the support!
