eMarketer: Social Gaming Shows Potential

If you’re a regular reader of this blog you already know we see the potential and rise of the social gaming industry (like Zynga shows).

Paul Verna, eMarketer senior analyst, says “the success of social gaming is part of a broader transformation to more casual, socially interactive environments”.

In February 2010 an estimated 25% of US Internet users aged 16 to 64 played social games. That’s about 40 million users according to eMarketer; a huge potential to do product placements, in-game items, display ads and other branding plays.

According Verna “forecasts call for continued growth in the social gaming audience, and companies that have built their businesses in the traditional video game industry are shifting resources toward this newer form of game play.”
