John Cleese Breaks Free In TomTom Videos
TomTom pre-launched its global Break Free campaign on 24 May 2011. In several videos John Cleese, star of Fawlty Towers and Monty Python is trying to break free from a traffic jam. And when Cleese gets frustrated, he might just act as a selfish bastard…
To promote its new traffic service in an entertaining way, TomTom has teamed up with John Cleese and many local celebrities to create unique “Break Free from traffic” performances. Music is inspired by Queen’s hit “I want to break free”. A song I still love to hear.
Are you tired of stop-starting, horn-honking, clock-watching, mind-numbing, foot-aching traffic? TomTom’s revolutionary HD Traffic service helps you Break Free from traffic, is the central brand messaging.
People that love John Cleese or Queen (I want to break free) can see more of the exclusive videos on TomTom’s Facebook page.
Traffic jam’s are one of my biggest frustrations living in Holland. It’s nice to have a fast car. But what’s the use if you hardly ever make it to gear 4, 5 or 6? I do hope your country is slightly better, but I’m afraid it’s not?
Exciting in this video pre-launch is that many local markets also have their local celebrity starring in a break free video.
In the videos from the United Kingdom Chris Kamara misses the match while being stuck in traffic and Scott Mills makes a prank call in his car while killing time in the traffic jam.
In the local video from France, Bob Sinclar is trying to break away from traffic.
In the local Dutch videos new sing star Pearl sings break free and Oboema voodoo master is also trying to break away from traffic.
Other local videos, from i.e. Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Italy can be seen in this buzz toolkit.

The online video pre-launch will soon be accompanied by an online and offline campaign. The videos and campaign are created by Pool Worldwide.
Dutch media agency MEC is responsible for media tactics and planning. Content and Motion created the global social media and pr strategy.
SocialMedia8 is doing global seeding and outreach. The TomTom videos are being tracked and analyzed with ViralTracker.
We expect the videos to pop-up on several famous car blogs, mainly due to the fact that John Cleese has already tweeted about his break free appearance to his 1,118,245 followers on Twitter.
