Leroy Smith: The Man Who Motivated Air Jordan
Getyourbasketballon.com is the official website of Leroy Smith, the basketball personality who motivated Michael Jordan, to be the greatest basketball player ever.
Leroy Smith: Motivize! Pulverize! Realize!
Leroy Smith, played by Charlie Murphy, is a marketing campaign by Nike based on the “real” motivational force behind Michael Jordan’s success. Leroy beat out Michael Jordan in the tenth grade for the last spot on the varsity basketball team of Laney High School in Wilmington, which cut Jordan from the team. Instead of giving up after failing to make the team, Michael Jordan used that for motivation to author the most impressive NBA career of all-time.
So how do we come to hear about Leroy Smith now? Leroy Smith refused interviews and shunned any publicity. He wanted to make sure his contribution to the game would be recognized as a gift to the world and beyond. But after getting ignored by the Hall of Fame, he decided that he could stay silent no longer. Plus, it took him a while to transfer the drills from VHS to DVD 😉
Now, with the launch of his revolutionary website Getyourbasketballon.com, he’s finally able to motivate the world, including Canada, with his 3 pillars of success: Motivize! Pulverize! Realize!
Getyourbasketballon.com, offers a commercial for his “Get Your Basketball On” DVD series, (crazy) video training drills such as The Mind Maze, Dragon Attack Drill & The Blind Mantis, the audio single “My Gift to the Game” (with the 8-bit Butterscotch Remix B-side), a petition be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, wallpapers, a bacon recipe from his “Get Your Cooking On!” DVD, Leroy Exposed (in 4 parts), an iMotivator Iphone app (by Blast Radius), and a 2-on-2 challenge game where you get to square off against Leroy and Manny.
The Leroy Smith campaign (extended on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter) is a wrecking ball of fun and entertainment and just as hilarious and outrageous as office linebacker Terry Tate and Propellerman.
