Facebook Wants To Help You Share Your Organs

Facebook has announced that it has released a new feature which can add the fact that you’re an organ donor, and share your story about when, where or why you decided to become a donor.

Facebook Wants To Help You Share Your Organs

Facebook users in the United States and the U.K. can enroll as organ donors via links to the official donor organizations. The new feature is being applaused by various organ donation communities around the world.

Zuckerberg said his friendship with Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs, who had received a liver transplant before he died last year, helped spur the idea, as did talks with his girlfriend Priscilla Chan, who is a medical student.

The new feature is a great new viral weapon of mass affection that will help to create more awareness for the lack of available organs worldwide. The organ donation option is primarily a way to spread awareness among your Facebook friends, and to inform family members of your intentions should they ever need to provide consent.

Here’s an interview with Mark Zuckerberg on ABC where he explains why this subject is important and how Facebook can help:

Facebook is not the first social networks that helps to create awareness for organ donors. In 2010 the Dutch Social Network Hyves (9.7 million users) cooperated with a government campaign aimed at raising the number of donors.

We’re looking for more charity moves from the big blue giant! What is your opinion? Which cause(s) should Facebook embrace? And which feature/functionlaity should come with it?
