Honda Saving The Drive-In Theaters #SaveTheDriveIn

Honda helps to save a vanishing icon of America, the Drive-In theaters across the country.

The initiative started around seven weeks ago, it’s a charity to raise money and buy digital projectors for drive-in theaters as 35mm film distribution comes to an end.

The idea of this project is to provide drive ins with a digital projectors, which are indeed not cheap – one costs about $75.000. An amount that not many drive-in theaters can’t afford to pay.

How does it work? Honda has started a national fund, plus is donating 5 digital projectors to the cause. Project Drive-In lets users pick up and vote on which theaters they like to be saved.

Apart from this, Honda started a crowd-funding on Indiegogo, where anyone can contribute – so far over $47.000 have been raised.

Over the past weeks, Project Drive-In has drove awareness of this historic part of American cinema and car culture. The initiative has received more than 651million impressions in press coverage in addition to 62 million impressions on Twitter alone. Also, there were more than 30,000 individual online mentions across blogs, forums, and social media.

This week Honda released a new video from this cause, interviews with fake news 24 teams making interviews with owners of some drive-in theaters. And reveling that they’re getting a new digital projector.

My Opinion?
It’s great that Honda is helping to save part of American history, love the approach and effort. But there are still over 140 drive-in theaters that need America’s help. With your help and donation, they don’t have to go dark forever.
