JetBlue: Election Protection. Live Free, Or Fly

Our Obama 2008 social strategy case study is viewed 250.000+ times now. Long live the long tail. We might even create the 2012 study as well. Meanwhile US airline JetBlue taps into the elections in a clever way with: Election Protection 2012…

On November 6th, America will elect the next US president. Smart marketers at JetBlue tapped into these elections with: Live Free, or Fly.

Clever, witty copy accompanied by a smart contest. If things don’t go your way, don’t worry. Here’s your chance to get a free flight out of the country with JetBlue.

Participate in our election protection poll to register. And remember if you change your mind you can always come back. Or not. It’s a free country.

In its social responsibility approach, JetBlue encourages people to vote on November 6. So that makes the add likeable and neutral. And with an appealing contest mechanism that is attracting many participants.

Next JetBlue works on its “destination TOMA”, by showing its 21 destinations. The site also shows a real-time map, showing where Americans want to escape to, after losing the elections.

JetBlue has promised to give away 1006 tickets. That’s right; 50% of 2012.

Love the campaign, its tactics, its mechanism and timing. Would love to hear your thoughts on this campaign approach.
