The Changing Costs Of Christmas

Christmas, the time we all come together with families and friends to celebrate this special holiday. As 2011 is almost coming to an end let’s take a look at how UK consumers spend their hard earned cash for Christmas.

The recession definitely had a large impact on consumer spending. In 2011 the total spending during Christmas by our British neighbours dropped with 19% compared to 2001. However the spending in gifts remains rock solid and even saw an increase.

An interesting note is that consumers these days buy presents at the last moment during Christmas Eve. Retailers should take notice of this – perhaps provide longer opening hours and make sure you’ve got enough stock.

How did your sales go this holiday season? Are you seeing trends in consumers spending habits? Sound-off in the comments below.

Since it’s the jolly season – we wish our ViralBlog readers a warm and Merry Christmas time!
